Please look at my lawn and tell me what you think.

Hey there,
i am very new to gardening so please go easy.
I have uploaded some pictures of my lawns to ask for opinions, ideas and advice.
Basically the problems i am having is weeds as u can see on the pics, the weather we have had they seem to have thrived lately i have clover, dandelion,
thistle and some other things i don't no the identity of.
In autumn i plan to mow, scarify, aerate, top dress then overseed to attempt to get my lawns ready for spring next year.
So fire away please hints tips and advice is thoroughly welcomed lol thanks.

Compared to mine your lawn is near perfect. I don't think you need to topdress or overseed. A basic weed and feed I think is all you need at this point.

 

get a quote from greenthumb (google to find an agent in your area for a free quote).... they apply the correct weedkillers etc for cheaper than what it will cost you to buy .... (have read that an application costs as little as £16 (depending on your garden size and they visit 4 times a year on a basic maintenance plan) ... they aslo offer services such as scarifying etc

however, once the weeds are sorted, poundland currently has some granular general fertilizer (for a pound) .... and they have blood/bone/fishmeal in boxes for a pound .... get a few boxes of that and add that on the lawn before the next rain

 

DO NOT get a quote from Greenthumb, they will charge you both arms and a leg. The lawn is fine for now. Treat it with an Autumn weed and feed in September.

 

I'd be fairly happy with that lawn. Regular mowing (at least once a week) should soon bring the weeds under control.

i mow at least once a week unless the weather stops me and i wont admit defeat yet and call greenthumb i have only had this house and garden for two month and will be here for years.
as u can see from the pics my soil is terrible and my boarders which i am going to sort out next week as i am off for 2 weeks i plan on removing the white pebbles (they get every were)
and getting some nutrients in to the soils as they are very clayey.
i also fancied a domed flower bed in the middle of the little lawn as the show piece as i have a lil boy on the way so i will need the big space for him to play as the back garden is flagged but i dont live in luxuary area so might give it a miss.
i cant wait for next year LOL

from what I have read, a basic plan costs as little as £16 a visit and they visit 4 times a year and apply weedkiller and fertilizers ... Most people who use them say that it works out cheaper than buying the chemicals yourself?

I have never used them, and have to affiliation with the company, but am merely stating what I have read on other forums

will keep you updated, as I have recomended them to one of my clients (I am a part time gardener/landscaper) ...

There are also other companies who offer the same service for similar prices, and most companies give free quotes

 

I don't know of this Greenthumb company, but i'd be very sceptical of any company that offered to do anything to my garden for just £16 per visit. Depending on where they had to come from, they'd have spend that just on fuel for the van to call round. Unless its a chap that pops round on his pushbike of course.

 

well, it does not help just 'speculating' and guessing

google them and ask a rep to give you a quote .... the quotes are free and he will come inspect and advise your property

very nice! ... not sure what mower you own, but a lawn like yours deserves to be mowed with a good cyliner mower twice a week in the growing season ...

you can pick up a really good older cylinder mower on ebay for pennies ... a good service costs cheap (especially if you do it yourself ... check youtube for instructions)
