Just thought I'd pop a few pics on of my Veg patch :D

Pic 1. you can see the runner beans and the tops of the sweetcorn alongside them.

Pic 2. you can just see the green beans in the back square, there are lettuce and beetroot behind them and my plum tree is in the middle with marigolds around the base.

Pic 3. is a square that's nearly done, it has some onions, carrots and pak choi left in it, you can also see my coldframe thrown together from an old pallet and some bebble wrap.

Pic 4. this square has my second lot of spuds in it, bought for 75p from Wilkos a few weeks back :thumb:

Pic 5. shows a few of the pots that surround my veg patch that are perennials etc growing on prior to being sold or planted out in my own garden.

          Looking very good, Bilbo :yess:

This year my sweetcorn has gone mad and is already as tall as the bean poles - about 7ft high at the moment

Yes it is; it's pretty much a garden we inherited when we moved in here 3 years ago, it's split on 3 levels; a large patio area and two square grassed areas. The middle area; one of the grass areas is now the veg patch enclosed with a reed fence and the lower area is mainly a play area for our 2 year old son with a swing and slide that you can just make out in the background.

I have a few pots on the patio and have lifted some slabs in the patio to make planting areas.

This autumn/winter I will be putting in a couple of small herbaceous borders on two sides of the play area using robust non-fussy stuff :D

                        Thanks for the kind comments catztail; I've taken a few elevated shots of the back garden from the bathroom window from right to left so you can a better feel of it;

Pic 1. Shows the humble shed with tomatoes growing along it as well as in the large pots.

Pic 2. Shows the veg patch; the subject of this thread :D

Pic 3. Shows the 'play area', note the "dead" corner, a victim of last winter, it was a lovely ceanothus. That will be cleared and a larger "blow-away" type greenhouse will be going there (strengthened :D) as it is a very sheltered corner. You can also see my row of raspberries along the edge of the patio, tied to wires; they have just been cut back having finished fruiting.

Pic 4. Shows most of the patio, the small "blow-away", some of the pots, the strawberry patch in the corner, some cannas and on top of the roof in the foreground of the picture self seeded sedums and the like :thumb: All this is protected from prevailing winds by a 'well kept' 8ft conifer hedge just to the left of the picture - I'm not a fan of conifer hedges but it was there when we moved in and does the job brilliantly :thumb:

And the rest of it is an inspiration to all that didn't think they could fit some food in:thumbsup::)

                              Excellent. A proper inspiration:dbgrtmb:

I just have a couple of ideas that may or may not work.

Do you think it would be wise/practical to reinforce the shed roof a bit, and then grow strawberries off the top of it?

I notice you have an area of flat roof attached as part of your house. I do too. Is there any practical (and safe) way to utilise that do you think?

I suggest these two things because I was thinking my shed roof and the flat roof part of the house are currently just dead space, and was kind of hoping to change that but I'm not sure about things collapsing under the extra weight of compost and plants.
