I have a French friend who is married to an Englishman. She says the trouble with the English is they think they're the best ... whereas the French know they're the best.

If South Africa sorts out the crime and corruption, I'd be back on the 1st plane ... lived there for more than 30yrs

I have been around and lived in several countries ... for me, South Africa was the best (by far) ... a world in one country .... tropical in parts, desert in some, cool with snow in some .... etc

my brother's garden is landscaped with a 'tropical/exotic' theme .... you would think that you were in the jungle if you visited his home

cheap to live there, good standard of living, good people (lots of ex-British, especially the older folk who have retired there) ... lots of work if you are highly skilled and know how to market yourself

    pity about the crime though

      Looks nice Victoria :dbgrtmb:

Someone said to me the other day, "I cant stand it when we get hot weather in England, its always so humid. If you go abroad its hot without being humid".

People make some very strange comments, as yes it does get humid here in hot weather, but most of the hotter countries get much warmer night temperatures than we do, even when we have our hottest spells of weather.

As I pointed out, if you are on holiday it don't seem as hot.
When its hot here, most people are working and doing their daily chores.

I know one thing, if I had the money I would be out of this very overpopulated island like a shot.
But that would be the kind of money where you dont need to work anymore.

Always had a hankering to see S. Africa *dim*, but I think I've missed my chance

I think it's mostly the South East which is overcrowded, Pete. Many of us are stuck down here for one reason: work.

Are you talking about road congestion, Pete? If so, I'd have to agree with you. I've lost count of how many family holidays began with us camping out on the M25. We've had the lot: accidents, extreme-sport roadworks and on one memorable occasion a loony in a camper van with a gun. One year, everyone gave up, got out of their cars and started playing football. It's the spirit of the Blitz. It's made us what we are. Miserable gits, mostly. :D

Shineyland is is a friendly, warm and uncluttered place - but border control is pretty tough. :heehee:

:sunny: I have some friends who live not that far from Victoria in actual fact & it is beautiful peace & tranquillity if you want it or beautiful towns & cities.. I have considered moving abroad a couple of times, but am still here for whatever reasons & I agree with roders, hard to find something to replace "good ol' blighty" with... We have a wonderful country spoilt by our governments..
So if the Algarve fits your bill, it is a truly wonderful place.. My friends like Vicky are so happy there too & have roots down there now & many friends too with no intentions of returning here.... :D
