Unusual gardens

Hello fellow gardeners,

What's the most unusual place you've ever gardened? In a box? In a shoe? In a hat? Where and what have you planted?

Looking forward to hearing all about it!

 

A Boot! My husband wore his favourite old boots for years, I think they were from an army surplus shop. They were rarely off his feet. Then one year the mud at Glasto was really bad and it sucked the sole off. So we took it home and planted it up, sempervivums.

Nothing that strange in the garden right now though I have sempervivums in an old bread crock.

What do you grow in the bread croc?

I grow lettuce in a stilleto....

I grow lettuce in hats and shoes. Love my veg plot but am also a new fan of roses. At war with my lawn. How about you?

 

I suppose the most unusual place I've gardened is at Chelsea Hospital. The first picture shows what we're presented with on day one. The second, much head-scratching. The third, the finished garden. I've been through this process three times now and would love to do another - sponsors willing.

A few years ago i was walking passed some Allotments, and to my amazement an old gentleman had three old Shanks Toilets filled with Petunias and the Petunias looked fantastic .. ( Could be he never cleaned the toilets).
