Had a card from the postie saying there was post with insufficent postage at the sorting office.

Its a 16mile round trip. There was nothing on the envelope to indicate who it was from so I paid the £1.22 in case it was work related (It was the size envelope that tenders for work usually come in)

Only to find it was junk from a car dealership.

Just sent them an invoice for my time & costs, £26 sounded reasonable.

    Along with this letter,

If you don't succeed, just post their details up on every forum going and ask people to send them and empty envelope with no stamp on it. :)

      Like it Eddie, like it:dbgrtmb:

If I get no response i'll send them a hard copy and after 30 days another invoice for interest only at 8% above base rate.

If that don't work, have em into the small claims court:thumbsup:

Yes, I can't say I'd be best pleased doing a 16 miles round trip to pick up Junk mail.:( At least it tells you about the Car Dealer, after all if they can't even put the right amount of postage on what's their cars going to be like.:D

I don't see why in this world of strained resources and environmental issues, that the Government don't just put a blanket ban on all forms of junk mail.

If I want something I will ask, and certainly never ever bother to look at or open any junk mail, it just goes straight into the dusbin as I walk past.

I've had sucess with it though Eddie, although admittedly, my mail shots are very carefully targeted and often just in the form of a polite e mail with a request for them to have a look at my website.

Did 2 yesterday & both got results, i'm now on the contractors list for West Dorset Building Conservation Dept. and The Landmark Trust.

Its the random mailshots that annoy me, as soon as you form a limited company all sorts of rubbish comes thru.

Mind you, I like the pens and the diaries:dbgrtmb:

Woops..... After having read your last post, I have realised that I am just as guilty of it.
I had never thought about it before, but I look at the weekly council planning lists and send out a letters of introduction. That's bad, as it makes me a complete hypocrite. :(

General junk mail is banned on the island, so we don't get the rubbish through our doors. Hawkers are banned too. :)

There's the 'stuff' that falls out of every newspaper and magazine, the pizza leaflets, the Indian takeway menus, latest offers from the local Nisa and Co-Op stores, bits of paper from taxi firms, people offering to paint my house, do my garden, pave my drive, clean my windows, do my ironing, walk my dog, clean my carpets, clean my house and some A5 glossy thing called 'Living in ....', which is full of ads for hand-made (grossly over-priced) furniture, 'bespoke kitchens', tack shops and 'dining experience' restaurants. There are the charity envelopes, at least 4 a week. Then there's the junk from places like the furnishers from whom I bought a suite 2 years ago and who now think I probably need another one; the car dealership who insist I trade in my 1 year old car for a new one; Everest who replaced all our windows, doors, soffits, facias and gutters 5 years ago but now think I should have solar panels and of course, BT who try and flog me 'Sunshine Deals' or 'BT Infinity' when the latter isn't available and the former is for 'new customers only' and who can't even provide a decent reliable broadband service (despite my living only some 300 yards from the exchange - as the crow flies). And .... when you've slung that lot in the recycle bin, there's the stuff which comes in 'window' envelopes which forces you to open it, tear off your name and address and scan the rest of it because it peppers your name throughout the letter so that you now have two heaps - one for recycling and one for burning. :gaagh:

Just as a BTW Ziggy - this letter and invoice you sent the car dealership ... did you put a stamp on it? :heehee:

:D That did occur to me, no, it was attached to an e mail:dbgrtmb:

We too have a woodburner. During the summer I wizz up all the paper & cardboard with a paddle drill & turn it into papier maché blocks.

Any waste oil gets soaked into them too, like from the deep fat fryer.

What an ingenious way for a garage to up all their customers' mileages and generate more work for their service department.

I wonder how many miles in total were driven unnecessarily?

Thats what I was thinking, mailshots are usually in the hundreds if not more, thats a lot of businesses having to pay the extra & go to the sorting office.

It looks like the letter was held at the sorting office from the start, not sent out on the rounds & then taken back, as I got there before our postie had finished his round.

          Good for you! :dbgrtmb:

I had a different situation but told Npower I would charge them for wasting my time. Then took them to the Small Claims court and got £800 from them :hapfeet:

Nothing really wrong with that as long as you put the correct postage on it. It's fairly standard in the building trade.

I don't mind junk mail as I can easily decide whether it's of interest to me or goes into the pile for lighting my fire. If I didn't want it I would go on the Mail Preference List.

It's post office policy not to send them out on the rounds. They make more money that way.

You can phone the sorting office and ask them to tell you what the letter is. :dbgrtmb:
