      Hi Nigel,

I don't think it would be wise to use a weed and feed just yet. The lawn needs to establish itself. It will take a while for its roots to take properly and for the lawn to 'knit' itself together. Lawns shouldn't need feeding in their first season. If the weeds are a real problem, then use just a weedkiller, perhaps in a few weeks. Make sure it's growing ok first though. :)

I'm assuming thats a "lawn" weedkiller Sheal and not just any weedkiller?

I think I'd wait until next spring now and apply "weed and feed" then.:)

A lot of the weeds will probably die once regular mowing takes place

I think the rule of waiting 6 months for grass/lawn to establish is only when you plant grass from seed? ... I may be wrong, however, I am very weary of using stuff like weed and feed ... I only used it once and ended up burning spots on the lawn, but saying that, I have a heavy hand and used the stuff from a box and not from the plastic fertilizer spreader bottle

perhaps contact greenthumb and let them advise ... from what I have read, they are cheap and some state that it costs as little as £16 for an average sized garden

How recently was the lawn laid? Pam, the weeds were probably already in the soil and just grew through the turf. Nigel, do not use any chemical on the lawn at least until next spring. Dim, when using weed and feed always use a suitable applicator, otherwise, as you have found out, problems occur. Regarding weedkiller, as Pete has implied only ever use a selective weedkiller suitable for use on lawns.:dbgrtmb:

I have also recently had turf laid ,all my topsoil was replaced. I can see 4/5 weeds on the lawn ,which had its 1st cut Friday.:yess:
Yes you will get weeds ,which either are already in the grass or grow through, but my point is they should not be so bad that the lawn is unsightly.:what:
I have more weeds growing in the borders ,same soil, which I just pull out :parsnip:

Pam, you had ALL your topsoil replaced? To a depth of 6" to 8"? A VERY expensive lawn then. I can understand the concern about weeds.:D:thumbsup:

glad this was posted as I bought weed & feed for my turf just to keep weeds at bay before they start, but I guess it makes sense only to treat when there is an issue!
