    Eltham is kicking off.

200 strong groups of white men running through the streets.

    Eltham Twitvid.com

Edited for update: turns out the video wasnt Eltham at all- it was Enfield locals 'protecting their manor.'

Eltham DID kick off, the Millwall lads didnt exactly make things better. They had their own ruck with the police.

Apparently Liverpool has kicked back off... getting boring now! Police or the army need to end it.

In a potentially troublesome development, one far-right group said that about 1,000 of its members around the country were taking to the streets to deter rioters.
"We're going to stop the riots — police obviously can't handle it," Stephen Lennon, leader of the far-right English Defense League, told The Associated Press. He warned that he couldn't guarantee there wouldn't be violent clashes with rioting youths

There are some interesting stories emerging from all this, such as the group of Turkish shopkeepers in Stoke Newington who decided they weren't going to be victims and chased their would-be attackers off into the night. They're armed with all kinds of stuff in case of further trouble and they're determined to defend their businesses.

OH has just commented that Cameron may at last have got his Big Society, but perhaps not quite in the way he imagined.

This was just rumours in the end.
From 10pm last night Twitter was alive with rumours about Eltham lads marching to Lewisham. Each new tweet was more churning of the rumour mill.

Nothing happened, every thing was quiet.

Checking with other athletes and rowers, we've all had quite a few emails and texts from friends and athletes abroad, asking if its still safe to come to stay in London.

Its done incalculable damage to London's image. Truly. A couple of rowers from Boston who stayed in London last year for the rowing season are stunned this has happened.

In the US media its being compared to the Rodney King LA riots. They have no concept of recreational looting and rioting. For instance, the US has always had trouble understanding football hooliganism was organised and recreational and that most of the rioters had jobs.

A text from an Iraqi rower who basically trains in a shed on the Euphrates.

My wife was in Morrisons at Brecon, Powys this morning and overheard the staff discussing an email from the police giving guidance on what to do in the event of a riot and looting of the store, so it looks like preparations are being made nationwide.

London should never have won the rights to hold the Olympics, anyway!

I read this, people saying Manchester should 'take note' of what they were doing.

A group of lads 'patrolling' the streets of where they live, with 16,000 coppers surrounding them, with no rioters to be seen....

Manchester & Salford, thousands of rioters, barely any Police because people only care about London (Probably the worst Police in England, tbf) and we're supposed to fend for ourselves? lol.

I think they KNOW this is gangsters telling little kids what to do (A well-known mob leader in Manchester is seen telling kids what to do in videos) and if they start attacking people with batons, no doubt guns will get involved and there would be a LOT of fatalities.

Well they have been authorised to use plastic bullets and a water cannon should they need it but I can't help feeling that it will repeat itself.

The most signed e-petition on the No 10 website is one calling for convicted rioters to lose benefit payments:

      http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/7337

Personally I'd hit each rioter with a massive fine rather than comunity service or jail, many of them have 'normal' jobs so could afford it. Hows about £30,000 fines with the money going to compensate those who have lost their businesses. If they can't pay up either get the money off their parents or if they are on benefits then make them pay back over the years like student loans.

I'd sign that, but I can't on principle. It is specific to the London rioters, implying that the riots in other towns and cities are unimportant.

Now that is a good idea. I'd support this one. I wouldn't fix it at £30k though. I'd say the greater of £30k or 2 years full salary.
