    Hi,

The leaves of my tomatoes plants are browning at the edges and am concerned that it may be blight. It is affecting the upper most leaves on each plant (however some of the lower leaves have yellowed).

Please can someone tell me what this is and should I cut off anything that looks even the slightest bit brown/yellow?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Nah, think you're alright there, just looks like natural die back ( Or Dai Bach, Dai the plants little brother:heehee:)

The leaves often go yellow on lower parts of the plant, when they are not getting enough sun down there to photosynthesise, the plant sucks back all the nutrient & drops em.

Have a look at the sticky thread on blight at the top of edible plants, might be worth signing up for blightwatch so you know when to spray.

Thanks Ziggy, that is a relief!

I will break out the salts and have a look at the blight thread.

        Although your response dose raise 2 further questions;
        What is blightwatch?
What would cause die back of the upper leaves?

        Thanks again,
        Mark

I think the cause might be more like your second diagnosis, Ziggy:thumbsup::D

Thanks for this. The pictures on the included pdf are better the those I have found on the internet that do not show the underside growth (that my plants do not have). Now I know what I am looking for I should not get spooked so easily.

Also blightwatch looks like a very good tool and I will be signing up.

          Thanks again,
          Mark

          No worries,

No good getting spooked about blight, once you've got it, its too late, abandon all hope & resign yourself to green tomato chutney:DOH:

:DOH:I get regular texts from blight watch for the 2 post codes I operate in, if I haven't sprayed recently then out comes the boardeux mix. Its comparativly cheap compared to the amount of crops at risk. And easy enough to wash off the toms before you eat them.
