There are an awful lot of Sorbus, which one do you have ?
I think they're all classed as a 'small' tree (up to 30') but i don't know how the different types vary.
One of the tree experts will know more.

    Hi EarthAngel

Although a tree is genetically programmed to attain a certain height if possible, how high and large it gets in maturity is down to a number of other factors such as placement, soil conditions, water and nutrient availability, general health and vigour, pests and disease, pruning, care and attention received etc. Mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia) is classed as a small - medium sized tree, and can exceptionally reach 25-ish metres in height. However, a tree would have to be grown in optimum conditions to achieve this, and no matter how good your garden is, optimum conditions will rarely be met. I think a rowan tree of a 100'+ would be a record breaker!

There was a Rowan growing on top of a telegraph pole in Blaenau Ffestiniog, was there for years but only about 9inches tall.

Seen a couple of "natural" bonsai's myself Zig; one was a Rowan growing in an old tree stump, never got any bigger than 18" for over 10 years, yet it's trunk was quite wide!!??

Another is a Silver Birch growing in a crevice in a wall, it's been there for as long as I can remember and it's about 12" tall :thumb:

I've also been given a Rowan tree for my garden, although i don't want anymore trees, so could i keep it pruned small? More of a bush than a tree? I love them normally, but i want to keep as much sunlight in the garden for fruit, veg and flowers and i already have trees at either end so just wondered if it is easy to keep small? :)

I think in normal sort of conditions (if there is such a thing) something around 25-30 feet sounds about right after maybe 15 years or so
I think they are a lovely tree and do fit into the normal 'garden' better than most (on the fringes) :)
The ultimate height could be a lot less in less than perfect conditions

They are also great for wildlife and don't have a canopy that is too dense :thumb:

They prune well so it can be kept at whatever size you require
normal sizes are 25ft upto 75ft they like sun and hate full shade and don't like water logged roots birds love them .
      hope this helps :sunny:
