Pineapple and Ginger

Just thought I share a couple of pics of a pineapple plant and a ginger plant that I have grown from supermarket fruit.

The pineapple is my first success after many failed attempts and the same goes for the ginger too :thumb:

 

Nice one! I have 2 avocado plants I have grown from some I got from the supermarket.

I've always wanted.to try growing a pineapple like that.

 

Hi Catztail; it's something I've tried on and off for years and have never got one to root, but I saw these small pineapples in ASDA that had exceptionally fresh healthy green tops and thought they must be worth ago and luckily this time one rooted. I simply chopped off the top with a bit of the flesh left on and then left it to dry out for a couple of days. The piece of flesh then easily comes off leaving you with the leaves, peel off the lower leaves carefully to reveal young roots already there and then pop in a pot and keep warm, they don't like sitting in wet compost either, I hardly watered this at all to get it going :thumb:

It is amazing what you can grow from supermarkets, this year I have successfully germinated/grown;
Dates, Mango, Avocado, Lemons, Oranges, Pomegrantes, Ginger, Pineapple, Passion Fruit, Kiwi Fruit, Apricot & Lychees :thumb:

 

Ive tried with the pineapples for years with no luck, will have to try this method see if we have any luck .

 

I would suggest to try also... Dragon fruit , sugar cane , lemon grass , papaya and if you lucky enough to find them, try also addos , cassava , yam and one of the most pretty tropical ever the turmeric and acai.

 

Here's an update on the Pineapple and Ginger;

The Ginger has now developed 2 suckers which growing quite quickly :thumb:

The Pineapple is a picture of health, I'm really pleased with that

Both have now been moved in to our large kitchen away from central heating but still recieving ample light, that will keep them frost free through the winter :D

Has anyone ever had a ginger flower from supermarket ginger root?
