I hope and pray that it does not cause much chaos and havoc, and fizzles out or veers back to sea

for those that want to read up to the minute updates with breaking news from those on the ground, here is a good thread on another forum that is updated continuously:

Fingers crossed for all concerned, we usually get the winds some days later.

Hope its not as bad as the doom mongers are predicting . I saw a programme on them a while ago and ,as ziggy said , as the hurricane moves across the Atlantic - luckily losing its strength - 90% head straight for the British Isles , bringing wet and windy weather. Why can't they pick on France or Spain for a change !:D
Our friends are flying to Washington DC this weekend , they have had an earthquake , a hurricane is approaching all they need now is an outbreak of pestilence !

I worry about seismic activity in that area, there is a transverse fault off the coast that could shake for several minutes. The new buildings have been designed to withstand it, you will get windows & panels poping out of skyscrapers but the structures should remain intact.

Its the Victorian tenements that will fail, lime mortar will turn to powder with that sort of shake.
