    Hi all,

I have a metal wire Trellis that I need to attach to my house wall but I'm struggling to find anything online.

The mesh trellis is about 1m x 1m and the mesh is about 5mm thick and each square is about 20 cm apart.

Can somebody help me find a suitable fixing that attaches to a brick wall and keep the Trellis a few centimetres off the wall?

    Thanks, Nick

Extra long bolts/screws with a couple of bolts (or rubber washers) between the wall and the trellis?

Thanks Merleworld - not sure I understand though.

Would I use the bolts to pinch together either side of the wire?

Fit wooden plugs into the wall, protruding half an inch
fit wire mesh and attach with Staples
    Wire fencing accessories from Uniwire

Or attach two wooden battons to the wall and do same

Personally, I'd use wooden battens (made from something like 47 x 22mm sawn, treated timber), attach the mesh/trellis to that by means of metal staples, then screw the wooden battens to the wall with 3" No.8 external grade screws. If that doesn't leave the trellis sufficiently 'proud' of the wall, use something like bath tap washers (which are rubber and have a convenient hole in the centre through which to put your screw) 'sandwiched' between the wooden frame and the wall. You'd be able to get all the materials needed in any Wickes, Homebase or B 'n Q.

    Sorry, meant 'nuts' not bolts.

As per this pic, rubber washers would probably be better as they are flexible and won't rust ...

How about 2inch long screws? and PVC conduit, copper pipe or bottle tops?

Drill hole in wall, insert rawplug

(pre cut) say 2cm length of plastic conduit* Offer up mesh poke screw through and tighten.
So that one corner is hanging on mesh.

Repeat at other corners, but in such a way that the mesh is pulled slightly, so that when done all 4 corner fixings are pulling, keeping mesh taught. Or you could use big washers if you want to instead of hooking it

PVC conduit 20mm diameter £2.00 from any diy shed (electrical section)

As its PVC you can cut it with junior hacksaw, which you can also get from same diy store, along with the screws, and rawplugs, and optional washers. being pvc it will never rot like timber will.

So, if I'm right...your main query was about how you'd attach metal as opposed to wood? As Jack and Fidgetsmum have suggested, I'd go for staples - these should easily cope with the 5mm wire and still provide a good anchor into batons on the wall. Merleworld and Watergardens suggestions wouldn't really get around fixing to metal, (unless you drilled the frame of the trellis...you haven't described how wide or what this is.)

Thanks all for the message. When I took the old trellis down, I noticed it was attached with these fixings. Has anybody come across these before?

nearest thing to what you have is an "ABC wall cleat" , same as yours but you have to use a cable tie to hook on
