You're joking, John!!!!!! I thought you had some rain just recently? Well, it's 10.10pm and the temperature is still around 60f!!! It's been drizzling most of the day but now it's dry and very mild:D

We have had one or two very light showers but nothing of any significance, the soil is bone dry.

After a lovely warm autumnal day yeserday with plenty of hazy sunshine, temperatures have crashed over night, its currently 3.7 degrees here , a reminder that winter is coming and those plants that have been thriving in the warm autumn weather so far are going to need wrapping up soon :thumb:

Did drop to 1.9 a few minutes ago, but has now started to rise back up to a tropical 2.1 as the sun comes up :D

Definitely time to start protecting those plants, the forecast is for more cold nights this week, not quite freezing but close enough.....but then again they didn'y say it would drop below 6-7 degrees here last night

Same here, but the Met Office forecast is for the nearest town and it drops several degrees lower on my plot out in open countryside, so with clear skies and low wind speeds forecast I picked everything I could yesterday and afternoon.

Sometimes when I've been online early in the morning I've noticed the Met Office change their forecast temps down by a few degrees as the frost they didn't forecast actually happens.

First ground frost of the autumn here in my garden this morning.
Not much admittedly, but when I went out to feed the chickens at 8am there were definitely a few patches of white frost on the grass here and there.
Not enough to damage anything yet, Nasturtiums still look ok so they can stay put for now.
As is often the case, a decidedly chilly start has now turned into a beautiful crisp sunny day with a crystal clear blue sky and an invigorating freshness in the air.
I'm off out there, lots to do today. :sunny:

No frost here, yet, colder at night, but beautiful sunny day. I managed a full day in the garden in sunshine. Hoping for the same tomorrow! :yess: Trying to sort out all plants and digging out grass and turning the soil, so desperately need another sunny day.

Down to 2.9 here at the moment (10.32pm) and yet the BBC weather says a minimum of 6 degrees for us tonight and between 10pm and midnight 11 degrees!!!

I know there can be some variation, but come on  :rolleyespink:

Just as well I pay more attention to my gut instinct and my thermometers sometimes :D

On Tuesday october 11th, high at +30 recorded in the nearby Milan Malpensa Airport. A figure to be reported in the Guiness Book for Records.
That's due to a North-West Foehn wind that made a big Air-Mass flowing over the Alps range.
As a consequence of that, the Air-Mass was forced to go uphill the winward slope (during which it dropped most of its moisture) and then to go downhill the leeward slope.
"As a consequence of the different adiabatic lapse rates of moist and dry air, the air on the leeward slope became warmer than equivalent elevations on the windward slope".
Eventually the Air-mass got warmer and warmer while it went downhill.
That was due to an "adiabatic warming".
In simple words it can partly be explained by giving the example of the air getting warmer when we force it into a bycicle pump to inflate the tyres.
In the case of a Foehn wind the air is forced into a narrower passage to get over the Alps.

Early this morning, in Milan Malpensa Airport, a low at +1 has been recorded.
That was due to the great loss of heat during the night because of a clear sky, dry air and no wind.

So, in just 5 days we have experienced a Temperature range from +30 to +1.
      A 29 degrees gap !

      Very interesting Maksim.
Last night here dipped to 9c and we had a warm, sunny, windless day today with a high of 16c.
