I've never smoked in my life! None of my family smoke, and none of my friends, either.

I think if you're brought up around it, you're more likely to smoke.

So people who have one of these cards, won't their kids just steal cigs from them?

& It'll probably see an increase in 'fake' cigs which are worse health-wise than actual legit cigs.

I Have Been Smoking (The Fags) Since @ 13 years old. In those days the corner shop would sell a Single treetreetree ,which was purchased in the morning on the way to School. When I was 15 yrs old I joined the Navy where i could purchase a 200 pack for next to nothing. Now at the age of age I am still on THE treetreetree'S :phew:.. I have tried on numerous occasions over the years to (KICK THE HABIT). I have tried all the methods going ,but they have not worked.
as regards to (The Patches)!! I should have put them across my mouth!!!.

The Fortunate thing is ,I have Three Daughter's And Two Son's, and of course a wife, who do Not Smoke, and never have. In a way i get plenty of fresh air Cycling/swimming/Walking.
and if i want a treetreetree, it's the bottom of the Garden, in the shed , at least the dog comes down to say Hello.:).

Have you noticed the propaganda campaign against drinking that's been building up over the last few years, with the government building up to their recent proposals to set a minimum price per unit, thus raising lots more revenue, all in the name of public health.

Binge drinking culture is a real problem for some people in some parts of some towns, and this is extrapolated by the government to apply to ALL drinkers everywhere.

I don't think more people are binge drinking because less are smoking. I have no figures to back up my claims but my own observations seem to indicated that there has always been those that drink far too much, and there has always been certain parts of town where this is prevalent. Very occasionally when all of the lads happen to be back in town at the same time, I go out into town for a drink. We go to the kind of places associated with binge drinking, where we see crowds of people drinking moderate amounts, and the odd one now and then being thrown out by the bouncers for being unable to stand unaided.

Very true, and I honestly believe this is why I smoke. That sounds like an excuse, but I used to get cravings before I even had my first drag of smoke.

It was different times during my childhood. Passive smoking was unheard of, so you were allowed to smoke on public transport, and smokers would smoke in the house while the kids were playing in the same room. Basically I spent much of my childhood in a haze of cigarette smoke.

I don't blame anybody for this. People didn't think about things like that back then.

Now, I don't smoke in the car (even if I'm on my own), I don't smoke in the house, and even in the garden and out and about I don't smoke within breathing distance of my son, so with a bit of luck he wont grow up to be the daft loon that I am, and will have the good sense to not pay top price for the privilege of poisoning himself, making himself unfit, and wasting his life.

I can remember buying packets of 19 Embassy from machines, I think the machine took two half crowns, five bob.
Dont remember getting change in the packets though, just odd amounts of cigs.

Never touched No6, made me cough too much.:D

I even bought some tools from the Embassy catalogue when I started work, they had some reasonable stuff, still got some of them.
          Better quality than Greenshield stamps.

One of the biggest problems is that most pubs close too early (11pm) ... most/many people only leave home after 7 when going out, so they end up getting to the pub late and drinking against time ...

In cambridge, the binge drinking problem with students is bad .... they are on a limited budget ... so as an example, they go out with £20 in their pocket .... get to the pub at 8pm, and have only a few hours to drink the whole £20 worth so end up drinking as fast as they can

extend the pub hrs to 1pm and the problem will not be as bad (there will still be those who get legless after a couple of pints)
