Thank you both for the web address , my point is that you can actually multiply begonia even from leaves and the price of the luxurians and angel wings are well too much , if anyone got even a single leaves to spare i would be glad to swap ,,same as hardy ginger .
the only problem is to find the colocasia Tea cup........
I`ve seen that in Italy , dasn`t look like a colocasia at all and can actually grown up to 6ft in one season , I`ve found few american website who sell that , but ones again will cost me a fortune and don`t even know how will perform in England

 

Thats the problem Sal. It's hard to find certain things over here. I love colocasias but they are either hard to come by or stupid expensive and the shipping can be ridiculous.

 

I will make you lot laugh , around where I leave there is an asian grocery shop who sell specific asian veg and fruit.....got my alocosia from there about 3 different species for under £2 (10) along with sugar cane (got 3 plant) , pinapple (3 plant ) guava (2 plant) and first time managed to get a mango plant as well .......he has some fruit that didn`t even know they existed .Due to last year frost I`ve lost almost half of my plants and really can`t afford to rebuy all the plant. :WINK1:

 

Did you grow them from seeds/ tubes or did they actually have the plants themselves?

 

I both tubers £2 per kg got around 10 of it ,apparently they taste like potatoes , but they are called yams sold in different size and one other species that the guy couldn`t translate....shame didn`t try acai berry (palms tree) bread fruit , turmeric , durian , pistachio , date , mangostine and a strange giant spiky fruit that don`t know yet what it is and strangly they even sell yucca tubers and a giant tropical aloe look like .

 

I've grown colocasia from a tuber before. Meant to this year but never got around to it. I have also grown avocados from the seed. Others on here have done some of the fruits as well. It's a nice cheap way to try some of the exotics. Trouble is, I like the more unusual varieties

 

I can get you some if you want , the most challenging has been the sugar cane finally all rooted and the pinapple , tryed before with no luck and both 3 from this shop and manage to rooted all 3 ......if you want fun try pomegrane fruit (very easy and frost hardy ) , Eriobotrya japonica managed from fuit seed and super frost hardy , along with mango , rice , lemon grass (very easy and impressive plant) lemon , dragon fruit ,passion fruit (got lots of them as well), opuntia , olive tree (frost hardy and easy to grow) acai berry , date palm (very easy again and frost hardy) and just few minutes ago I`ve found out that the tuber is a yuca or cassava (will try this one next year) along with papaya.

 

Yes I would like some of the colocasia! I have a lime tree with fruit on it, an olive, and a fig. I think I may try some of the others you've mentioned from seed. I would also like a coffee plant.

Just seen this thread, worth noting that Begonia luxurians does not propogate easily, although it can be done. Leaf cuttings dont work, the way I have done it in the past was from side shoots.

Cotswold Garden Flowers have them now - having micropropped them.

Not sure about seed, haven't tried myself and I don't recall reading anyone else trying.

Worth a try if you can find a reliable source of seed.
