I am getting ready to plant my new daffodils and have bought some "Crown Imperials" so do I plant them now (on their sides) or when I plant my Tulips ,which will be late October as I will be going away early November

    Hi Pam

Plant now , at least 8 to12 inches deep on a bed of gravel if you can spare it , yes on the side as you know it has a hole running through the middle so helps stop the water collecting inside which will rot the bulb from inside out .

Needs realy well drained soil and open sunny out of strong winds other wise you will have it one or two years then they just fade away I remember when they were 50 pence each and look at them now £££ , I think our soil in Wales is to heavy and too wet !!! I have never manged to keep them more than 3 years so have given up wasting my £££

Hope this helps , which colour do you have and they do realy well in pots especialy kept in a cold greenhouse over winter

Yep I agree, plant anytime now.

One of my favourite spring bulbs.

I think slugs killed off mine a few years ago. Flowered well for years and then a fast decline.

Thanks for bringing this up. I need to get some more.

Love these plants, I did have some in my old garden, they kept popping up for a number of years but then disappeared...

I can't justify buying the bulbs now though, the prices have gone up over recent years, anything from £3-£5 for 1 bulb

Seeing Monty planting from a sack full the other week on GW made me think how much did that lot cost??

I saw that one good selling make it look cheeper £ 6.99 you would need at least 3 or it would look a bit sad by itself , novelty plants we have all done it , like the yellow geranium I stayed up to buy and what a failure that was

£££ more money than sense :loll:
