Is anyone out there collecting mushrooms? Unfortunately, the place where I normally manage to find some nice edible varieties is invaded by people from Eatern Europe who pick vast quantities, often whole families are out there leaving few for anyone else.

I hate it when people from Eatern Europe eat more:DOH:

Just picked a humdinger of a Giant Puffball. Have 2 slices in the fridge for breakfast and am drying the rest of it in a low oven:dbgrtmb:

I saw some under my hedge but I don't know the varieties that are safe to eat.

Well to be honest it's nice to see people picking mushrooms no matter where there from (although it would be even better if they left some for everyone else) it's basically a lost art here in the UK most people look at you funny if they see you picking blackberries or plums let alone anything else! I've actually had people come up and tell me I shouldn't eat blackberries because there poisonous!

I used to go mushroom picking with my dad as a child. Up at the crack of dawn and away over the marshes on the Thames estuary on a dewy morning.........those were the days! :)

Been a poor season for them so far in this area.
Found a handful of field mushrooms and some Parasols about 3 weeks ago, but little else since. Ground is very dry here at present, so will just have to wait until the rains return.

I also used to go mushroom picking with my parents whilst on holiday in Tuscany. They have lovely woods there, and the best find were BOLETUS EDULIS.
