It's the time of year when these stunningly marked little fella's appear in the garden again, munching on anything and everything until the frosts come.....

      Great photos Bilbo.
It's also the time of year when you go out first thing every morning and walk face-first into a web that's been built across the garden path during the night. :what:
I've got one of these little beauties who, every night, builds one right across the doorway in the greenhouse....and every morning I forget it's there.

Hi Catztail, the spider in the last picture is the biggest and boy is she BIG!!!, she's built her web right in the path of the route used by the local cats; I think she fancies her chances :D  :loll: :thumb:

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday, it's that time of year for spider webs, when i went to a customers door and walked into one :OUCH:
Also noticed this morning it's Crane fly time again as i found one sitting there in my bathroom sink!! not sure how he got there :what: wasn't there when i went to bed last night.

My mother had to resort to using her tumble dryer yesterday (she rarely uses it...preferes to 'hang out') because a spider had made a fantastic web from the washing line to her rose tree and she didn't want to disturb it...:sunny:

I'm afraid I'm mostly terrified of spiders, small Garden spiders are fine and even the odd Orb Web but I draw the line at fist sized wolf spiders sneaking in the house when your not looking and then scaring the hell out of you when they appear from no where:(*shudders* I have to say they used to get the heavy side of the RHS Encyclopaedia however I try and catch them in a big bucket and a broom now and pop them in next doors garden:phew:

Yes, i am terrified of big spiders, actually small spiders scare me too! I'm a total scardy cat of anything with creepy legs and eyes!

I was told last year to put horse chestnuts (conkers) around the back of my furniture (out of sight) in each corner of my rooms etc. apparently this scares the spiders away, so i tried it after having several HUGE scary spiders in the house, and guess what it did seem to work. I even watched when i first put them down and saw a spider head towards the chestnuts and stop dead in its tracks and go the other way - thankfully well away from my feet!

Never saw him again :yess: ,so i have started collecting.

That's a new one! Never heard of that before.
Still, at least you've conkered your fear of spiders now. :D
