Here in Kent its not been a wet summer.
It has not been a good summer, but most of the rain has come in short bursts, that has only really wetted the top couple of inches at the most.

Its quite normal at the moment to dig down into the clay and find it dryer and dryer as you go down.

I think because we have not had any sustained spells of hot weather it would be classed as a poor summer, but had we had some real heat along with the rainfall we have actually had it would be a different story.

Same here, soil is bone dry, despite the rain.

Soil very dry here too, some of my stuff is wilting.
Although it's been a relatively cool and cloudy summer, rainfall here has been about average for the past three months.
This has this has kept things going, but has done little to replenish moisture levels below the surface following a virtually rainless three months last spring.
Like pete, I've found the soil below the top few inches here has remained very dry throughout.

Here in Shineyland we have had less rain than normal all through the year. Some of our ground is cracking up and I have been usuing the sprinkler on the veggies.

It's not been the best summer here either, but despite what many say it has been warm (just not that sunny) and very, very dry here, the rain has only really returned in bits and pieces over the last month.....

We have had three years of wet summers now, though spring has been good. My lawns are like bogs at the moment, squelching under foot. :(

It's bone dry in the E Mids, we've had some decent rain in September, but it's all disappeared already and stuff is wilting in the borders.
