Socks on the mantlepiece: should I be upset?

I spend a lot of my time fighting the sea of junk and debris which finds its way into my house. Today I finally lost it after finding that for some unknown reason my son had left a large pair of socks right in the middle of the mantelpiece I had just cleared of assorted small change, tickets and junk mail - not to mention a rather yucky half used pot of hair wax. My son didn't see the problem. They were clean socks, he said, in the tone he reserves for old biddies who've forgotten their medication and are being totally unreasonable as a consequence. Should I be upset by socks in the wrong place?

 

Shiney ... do you leave your socks on the living room mantelpiece? And, if so, does Mrs Shiney think it's sweet?

 

No Claire you have a valid point. The problem is they NEVER listen. Mine can't fold a towel properly, puts NEARLY empty stuff back instead of just finishing it off, won't take the bin out on his own, etc. etc. So basically you can't win........ :wallbang:

 

And another thing, why do I keep finding underpants next to the dirty bin? It's perverse. If you can manage to carry them across the room, why not put them inside the damn thing? I give up. Women are from Venus, men are from the garbage tip down the road.

 

My Son was exactly the same, it's just the way they are!! I used to find socks & pants under his bed, what was that all about??

Yes, Clare, I would be UPSET. To me it shows a lack of respect for your time and effort to make the home a nice place. As I gather his arms and legs are not broken, he can carry his items to the proper location. Tell him next time you find things in the wrong location it will be trashed. Also, its probably time he starts doing his own laundry. (I have a feeling you do it for him) . His father needs to come to your side and support your wishes. And if your still buying stuff for him, since he does not care about proper care of the "stuff", why buy it for him. He can survive on the bare esentials.

Hate to say it but most women don't raise their sons to be good husbands. Lots of boys leave their mothers homes thinking the wife will just continue what their mother did for them. And then the wife has to deal with training that the mother should have done.

Don't mean to insult any mothers out there. Being a mother is the most important job in the world, and the toughest.

 

Other way round here, I make things nice, evil wife dirties it or covers it with rubbish.

 

Well, over here, its my husband. He is so messy and leaves things disorganized. He was in the garage the other day with a fellow car buddy, and I heard his buddy say to him, boy you work messy.
If he has an electic item, and it needs to be moved from one location to the other, instead of wrapping up the cord nice to carry it along he just drags it to the area. I could go on, but after 22 years of marriage, you can't fight city hall. His mother raised him wrong in that area, she was a stay at home mom and did everything for her boys. But he good in him does way out the mess. (keep telling myself that)

 

Claralou, I think that your son has to see a disadvantage in hanging the socks where he should not. Because you know him, it is up to you to decide what would work best.

Right now I have the problem of these aliens which come in some jelly thing and are sold in big transparent eggs. Anyway, the girlies have managed to convince me to buy two each in a single day (bad mistake).

Now - they are the shape of a rabbit-chicken-human embrio with alien eyes and they wobble like if they were alive.
Anyway yesterday evening I had to hear about 20 stories about how they are supposed to be treated, how they behave etc...

Apparently we have two adults and four little ones, some boys, some girls, which are currently just everywere not to mention the jelly stuff which I KNOW NOW sticks to the fabric like mad, but not to the plastic for example.

It is like having the GREMLINS !!!:gaagh:​

 

Yes, you're right, Redstar. But ... but ... that would mean letting him loose with my nice new washing machine. Nooooooooooo! I'm still trying to scrape the gunk off the microwave from his attempt to feed himself the other day. Actually, it's a sort of genius when you come to think about it. Make enough mess and bust enough household appliances and people will rush towards you screaming: 'No! I'll do that for you! You just sit there in front of the football and try not to smear food everywhere.'
