No, not the excellent tv series but us.

    We have the internet.

    Access to Terraquads of information.

We could look up almost everything we need to know about any plant, plant problem, growing methods etc.

Yet even for the most basic stuff, we chose to come on to a forum of like minded souls and ask simple questions:dbgrtmb:

    Fantastic.

We may have had less than a generation to get used to this new way of communicating but we've still managed to bring it back to a chat over the garden fence and a cup of tea with the neighbour:yess:

The answers might be backed up with the full knowledge of the Krell Archives but, in the end, we are still "Being Human"

    :cheers::phew:

no ... although it's a gardening forum, it's a place where likeminded people hang out to seek conversation ...

like you said, all the answers are on google ... but some are lonely and like chatting

I googled lots of things about plants, greenhouses and gardening questions before I decided to join. BUT I couldn't put a pic of a plant into google to see what it was :WINK1: Yes, it's a lovely little community on here, and in 24 hours I have found a most helpful bunch of people :)

          Well said Zig. :dbgrtmb:
It's all about that 'contact with like minded souls' as you so succinctly put it isn't it?
No search engine can give you that.
A computer search cannot give you the humour, compassion, inspired solutions and lateral thinking you get from dialogue with other human beings who can empathise with your triumphs and disasters.
We humans simply love to communicate and computers have enabled us to communicate with more people with whom we share a common interest than was previously possible.

You have put that in a much better way than I have Trunky:dbgrtmb:

But thats what I was trying to get to. Its better to be in the library than to be one.

(Answer slightly biased because in Ancient Rome a "forum" was an area where people would meet for socialising and business)

If you are talking to your neighbour and he asks: how was your day?
            What do you answer:
            Check on Google?

We are not here for the bare information, not only, but to get information from HUMANS, which may not give you a perfect information, but friendly and full of flavour and some little additional information, plus an exchange of views.

For all other needs there are websites, and ,even then, a little help may save you hours of browsing.

To discover people and places comfortably sitting on a chair I find it so great.

I have been actually thinking of organizing a chat from time to time for those members of the forum that want to participate. There were talk of organizing one previously which never materialized. I will just have to gather a little more time and energy.

              Good post Ziggy...
Even though i look on the 'internettywebby thing' for answers to my gardening queries i don't always take notice...i'd rather ask you lot and get a 'human' answer instead ...if you know what i mean...
I came on this forum purely for my love of gardening and have since found so many of us are on the same wave length..i've had a scream so far...
              long may it continue:love30:

I'm heartwarmed to see the responses to my thoughts here:sunny:

It gives me hope that we can continue to evolve and not devolve.

Went round for a cup of tea with a fellow GC member this afternoon, had a lovely time.

I can't believe that out of the whole wide WWW. stuff there is another member who lives on the same street as me:DOH:

Just wish our street had a name.

                      Hi Miraflores
I think the possibility of being able to use a weekly chat would be a good idea .. Is that possible ??

Listen to some and you'd be forgiven for thinking the mighty lord google is the holy grail for finding the answer to 'the world, the universe and everything': well, I know the answer to that - it's 42 allegedly! But when I've followed the book or the 'do-this-and-nothing-can-possibly-go-wrong' advice on 'the net' and still have aphids on my antirrhinums, moulding marrows or wilting wisteria, that's when you need the human touch - for someone to say 'mine did that .....', 'that looks like ....' or 'have you tried ....' is worth far more than all the 3,329,000 so-called results google can throw at you. And, apart from anything else, the net has a c**p sense of humour!

Was the ultimate question "What is seven times nine?"

Its a long time since I watched the series.
