I've been online tonight looking at seeds for next year. Can you lovely forum people tell me where you order yours from and is there a preferred supplier? I've been on the Thomson and Morgan site tonight but thought I'd check if there's any where else you could recommend before I order?

Hi Lily, well most gardeners go for Thompson and Morgan, Suttons etc, but a lot of our members use other sources because there's more choice and less expensive.

I use Nicky's Nursery and order from them online. There's plenty of choice and they're priced a lot cheaper than the more well known brands. I ordered on a Saturday and got them on the Monday. There's a lot of seed companies out there and I'm sure other members will be along to give you further advice and suggestions.:D

      Hi Lily,

Kings seeds because they have a basic range that is cheap. The Real Seed company for a range of rare and unusual stuff, likewise Chiltern Seeds.

I've used 'Seeds of Italy' this year, for tomatoes and basil mainly, but the germination was really fast and i'm really happy with the produce, so i'll use them again in the future and try more of their seeds.

I use Chilterns and Plantworld for more unusual seeds but also use Thompson and Morgan, have had great germination from all three.

I've never had a problem with Sutton's seeds. They also stock seeds from the Eden Project aswell. :)

          Hi Lily

          Kings seed

Rarely use Thompson & Morgan because they really are very expensive compared to the above mentioned.

Order catalogues from each (free) and do your own leisurely comparisons.

Thank you all so much for your replies, I'll have a look at all the suggestions. I'm glad I didn't order now I have more options to choose from. I went to the garden centre today and the racks of seeds were all Thomson and Morgan which made me wonder why there was no other brands to choose from. I must admit though the saying "kid and sweetie shop" came to mind :heehee: I can see this being a LONG winter as my fingers are itching to plant seeds.....

It's worth looking in Wilkinsons (although not a massive selection they have most of the basic seeds) they are about the cheapest especially at this time of year when the sales are on of gardening stuff.

I get most of mine from Nickys Nursery & T&M. Also bought a few from eBay and Tozer seeds.

Actually eBay can be quite good for relatively expensive seeds like SweetPeas where you usually pay about £2 and only get 12 seeds I picked up some very nice ones for 99p for about 25 seeds:yess:

I buy many seeds from wilkinsons when they are marked down at the end of the summer, in readiness for next year, you wont get everything you want but you will get more than you probably need.

I then make a list up through this time of year upto Christmas and start researching online or through seed catalogues, I try to keep postage to a minimum and order from as few companies as I can, which may or may not include the following.

                  T&M
                  Suttons
                  Dobies
                  Marshalls
                  Robinsons
                  Moles
                  Kings
                  Real Seeds
                  JBA
                  Veg seed store
                  Chiltern
                  Ebay
                  AlanRomans
                  Others..

I dont order from all of these, but I have used them all at some time, and others too whose names escape me right now.

                  Steve...:)

Normally the shops I go to don't have the stuff I want, so Ebay is always cheap and cheerful!
