Not a braeburn, but what is it?

Yet another cheap apple tree from Aldi appears to be not the variety on the packing. I bought 2 Braeburn apple trees that have both produced apples with very rosy red skins and very firm flesh that has red pigmentation penetrating about 15 - 20mm into the apple:

Any ideas what I've got? Braeburns are a favourite of my daughter's but she isn't going to like these.

My 'Bramley' from them turned out to be an eating apple. All my work in selecting pollinators appears to have been a waste of time when so many have been mis-labelled.

Do you mean Redlove? it's the only one I know of with penetrating pigmentation...

and if it is Redlove that would explain the incorrect naming as Suttons have exclusive rights to sell it in the UK

I don't think it is a red delicious, which is not red inside, plus the skin is darker than this one and really coriaceous.

Theres a new variety the "redlove" which is red inside, but more than the one in the picture, so it would not be that one.

      I will investigate...

Digressing from the apple, on a whim I bought some reduced strawberry plants from Aldi. They didn't have a name which is a great shame since they are the nicest strawberries I have tasted in about the last 30 years and I don't know what they are!

If you are an RHS member they will identify apple varieties for free if you drop them into Wisley - that might not help you Scrungee.

Just as a BTW - you can also send them to the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale (Nr. Faversham, Kent) - take at look at their website for details.
