At precisely ten to two this afternoon, 22nd September, I saw a full laden gritter truck with snowplough attachment in front on the A38 approaching North Petherton in Somerset. Do they know something we don't

Make the most of it, you won't see one when it snows.

Being a bit - okay a lot, of a weather freak/anorak/fanatic i read various meteorological sites and for a couple of months they've been hinting at this.

I'm preparing my mind to having no less than last years severity, if it's more i'm hibernating for the following winter and not coming out 'til the April :help:

Me too, thats why I wandered off to check solar activity. With the Sun's output severely reduced, the Jet stream being in the wrong place & the posibility of another Gulf Stream diversion like 2 winter ago chances are we're in for a humdinger of a cold one.:runhills:

Hi, Zig, is it the jet stream being out that has caused the windy weather we have experienced for the last 18 months, I haven't been out in my boat for 15 months.

          Hi Blacksmith,

          Its part of the reason,

          http://virga.sfsu.edu/gif/jetstream_atl_init_00.gif

          Thats where its to today.

El Nino & La Nina have been doing odd things recently too. Scientists measuring the rising sea levels recorded a global drop in sea level this year.

Weather systems have been dumping more rain on the land surface than in recorded history. All that rain is being held back from reaching the sea by not just the vegetation, but mans abstraction, aquifers that have been emptied by man are just sponging it up.

I've hardly been fishing this year because of the wind, & theres me with a new fishing forum:DOH:

It may have been dumping rain on the land somewhere, but not here. We are having a drought - again - our ground is cracking up and the plants are all suffering. That reminds me  - I had better go out and turn the sprinkler off.

There is absolutely no chance of snow this year - as I have just bought myself a lovely big snow shovel. If I also bought a sledge that would guarantee it ! :dbgrtmb:

Wouldn't be surprised to see the gritters round here now whilst the weather's fine, as when the bad weather came last winter and the county council were told just how bad the road conditions were leading to our village school, they refused to come out in case they got stuck in the snow.

No, don't worry. It's just one of last winter's trucks. It got a bit lost on one of those B roads and before it knew it, September 2011 was nearly over. It'll be taking the winter off now, for a refurb.

The past twelve months have been kind of nothing weather here, not hot not cold, not windy not wet.

Just kind of in between, its a bit boring really.

                    Typical British weather I suppose.
