I remember the first snows falling that winter & running up to the door & banging on it, yelling, Mum, Dad, you know the deal, let me in.

Zig, we had looked at Bridport but apart from being tooooo hilly! (I am getting on a bit:D) there are some dodgy characters around there:WINK1: so we are going the other way, Wareham.:)

        Hey Strongy,

There are some very moody geezers around here, apart from me, apparently someone was wandering about with a shotgun in Portesham last night. Had worried phonecall from Sis, asking where the backdoor key was, neighbourhood watch had called her & made out like that he was in her back garden:DOH:

Wareham is nice, will scan some 1920's sketches of it for you when I go back to the ranch.

Remember, if you can't beat 'em, Wareham.

The Winter of 1963???? I was in the RAF then and some so and so volunteered a gang of us to dig out some farmers sheep, I never realised how heavy a cold, wet sheep is until then. The snowdrifts were 12' to 18' high in some place, what a Winter that was.:hapfeet:

Photo of sheep on the family farm in the winter of 62/63. We could have done with your help Armandii, we had over 300 sheep and no farm hands because the village was cut off for a couple of weeks:

They all had to be rescued (dug out), some of them were unable to move and were tiring themselves out trying to free themselves. Another photo of us feeding them during a snow storm:

We had over 4 days of digging and pulling the Sheep out. We got frozen, soaking wet, and I remember somebody broke his wrist hanging on a Ewe that started kicking and jumping. I also remember walking into the Mess on one of the nights and the freezing cold and the warm air from opening the Mess doors shattered both lenses of my glasses!!! Still, I managed to get permission for shooting on some of the farms, and got on friendly terms with a Scots Farmer's daughter for over a year........wonder, where she is now:scratch::D

In such winters i get quite anxious about the farm animals :(
Getting and keeping them safe must be no mean feat.

I was fortunate that I was in the Merchant Navy and sailed for South Africa on the day it started snowing and came back when it had thawed. :dbgrtmb:
