Hi guys, im new so i hope that this is the right place to post this:)

For about 8 years now i have lived in my house and we have had an absolutely gorgeous silver birch tree. A few weeks ago our neighbour asked if he could "trim" the tree on his side because it was growing over, of course we said yes, we also asked if he could "trim" our side down a little because it was starting to reach the house. So yesterday he decided to "trim" the tree, little did we know he would take a chainsaw to the tree and cut all the branches off it, now it is a tree trunk with a few branches dangling off it, it has no leaves on it whatsoever and it looks a mess, like something you would find in the savanna.

I was just wondering (and praying) if anybody knew if the branches and leafs will grow back, and if so how long. is there anything i can do to help it?

Thank you sooo much for taking time to read this, ANY help will be greatly appreciated and i am sorry for any spelling errors:dbgrtmb:

That's a shame silver birch really dislike being pruned and it sounds like he's really done a number on it:cry3:

Unfortunately if your neighbour has done as bad a pruning job as you say it will never regain its graceful look or proper shape. It will throw out young shoots in the spring and 'leaf up' but they will never replace the larger lost limbs. Not the news you wanted to hear I know, sorry I can't offer more help....

You can start praying if you are religious! but as everyone says it will never be the same.

There is nothing you can do for it now, as it will be closing down for the winter soon.

Give it a good dressing of Ericaceous compost over the winter and a general purpose liquid feed in the spring.:)

As Ziggy says a good mulching around the base for about a couples of yards or so in diameter will help. Remove any weeds or grass in that area before mulching.
