Fresh Dates

    I really love those yellow fresh dates that are available round about now.

    Trouble is, it takes them ages to ripen and aquire that delicious gooey, toffee softness. Is there a way I could hurry them up? I've tried leaving them in a bag with some ripe bananas but it didn't speed things up much.

    Ooo, not seen those, don't get em out in the sticks. Can you eat em as they are ?

    Have you ever planted one of the stones? I did and it grew into a lovely plant, trouble was it got too big, interesting though.

    No, they're crunchy and unpleasant, a bit like eating raw potato. It takes weeks to ripen them! They're yellow and they come still attached to the date branch, which I realise is the fork that comes provided in the oval boxes of dates.
