ok....so i have a massive apple tree in my garden, needless to say i now have hundreds of apples that i have had to collect off the lawn over the last few weeks (i litterally mean hundreds!!!!) and i've just been putting them in a pile as i have no where else to put them as im working my way up the garden doing a bit at a time.....it now smells like a cider farm up the top of my garden......can they be composted?????......and do i have to add anything with them or can i just buy a compost bin and put them in????

Only managed to make 1 apple pie with them so far.....although it was rather delicious :dbgrtmb:

    Hi Genie,

If you have a big garden and have lots of stuff to compost yes, but if you are only looking at the apples & your kitchen waste then you'd be better off with one of the open bottomed ones that let the tiger worms come up & eat the stuff.

thats the type i was thinking of Ziggy......would just really have kitchen waste....few dead heads and grass cuttings....oh yeah and the apples!!!....

Good idea Scrungee......i'll look into that....although most of them are now rotting in a great heap......but there are still LOADS on the tree.....hubby said he was going to set a distillary (sp) up in the garage when we first moved in :dbgrtmb:....maybe next year though
