    Yes, Clare, that would have been much clearer BUT, 50 years ago the original question would also have been clear.

    I'm amazed this thread is still running, and we still have some disagreement.
    Maybe we should just take the average of all our answers, so:

    6÷2(1+2) = 4.5

    :D

    Well, John, I'm assuming that you are ignoring the suggestion of the answer to everything is 42 and the humorous one of 7. Then the average will be 5.

    If you want to bring in one, or both, of those numbers as well it will be either 17.33, 14.75 or 5.67.

    Any more offers? :heehee:

    do we need to go to ACAS for this? :loll:
