Lavatera; weigela; bergenia. I'm sure there are others but I have blanked them out!

Ah yes, lavatera. Ghastly. My mother calls it 'Lavatorial'.

Harbour a fugitive fuschia and you face instant banishment from polite society forever. I have a delightfully vulgar specimen in my garden. Rather like the embarrassing relative who can be relied upon to turn up at family gatherings in a very loud shirt and spend his time belching, I have become rather fond of it.

.... and here it is as a wee thing. It's now three times as big and three times as brash.

I really like lavatera, such a showy plant. I don't like hydrangeas, the ones I have seen around here can't seem to make up their minds what colour they want to be and end up looking very wishy washy!!!

I think the joy of gardening is that we all like different things. But ... lavatera! Really, Val, you are in urgent need of re-education. :runhills:

Russian Vine, Lavatera, Forsythia, Leylandi, Large mop head Hydrangeas....to name just a few, oh and one that may surprise a few - Magnoilia soulangeana - simply because its nearly every other garden round here, I'd rather have a less common Magnolia species...:thumb:

Hi Gemini, I planted a Magnolia stellata in my mum's garden when I used to live there years ago with a rarer one - Magnolia Galaxy, that is still there and is simply stunning.

I did plant a Magnolia Yellow River in this garden but unfortunately it was one of my few failures

I have all of those plants in my garden and growing up the side of my house except the forsythia...don't think I'm familiar with that one. The Russian vine is one of my favourates.
To each his own but why would you not want them in your garden??

Hi Hydrogen, It's not really to do with the plants themselves, probably more because they are 'so' popular; they are great plants (although care should be taken with Russian Vine and Leylandi). I just have a personal preference of growing rarer and more unusual things :thumb:

As you say 'each to their own', that's what's great about us gardeners, everyone has different favourites and ideas, that's why no two gardens look the same

Don't take it too much to heart, Hydrogen - it's only a bit of fun. Just as well you like Russian Vine, though. Because I think you probably have it forever. :heehee:
