What plants would you not have in the garden?

Yes, it's ok if you just focus on a couple of flowers. Here's Lavatorial 'Barnsley' in all its glory. A right old minger.

Lavatera! For all those haters here. I've grown the dwarf version 'Novella' this year and was pleased with the result.

 

At my last house, I spent about five years trying to eradicate russian vine from the garden. It was killing everything off, including the leylandii hedge.

I feel a bit bad really, because although I killed it in my garden, by then it had already migrated to next door but one's tree

There is no doubt, it is a lovely plant when under control. I didn't have that luxury though, as the vine was already very mature when I moved in.

 

Any type of conifer.

Lots of other stuff including Lavatera, Pyracantha, Fuschia and Hydrangeas.

Hate this thing though, no idea what it is but I think it's ugly.



Don't mind Elders as such, but I do mind this one overhanging my arbour, which looks like it's ready to collapse (it grew that way because it had the Sycamore over it).



Anything that looks like this thing with the tiny leaves. The types that every supermarket or retail park seems to use as ground cover and which just looks ugly.



This climbing rose. The flowers are pretty, but I've never really liked it and it's coming down. Just trying to make my mind up what to plant in it's stead.

 

The plant in the first picture is Leycesteria (Pheasant Berry), I quite like it, but it can look quite straggly if not pruned correctly....

 

Thanks Bilbo. I tolerate it overhanging because we get lots of birds and they love the berries. It will be soon be blocked out by a Laurel which I have in a container. Our lawns are slightly raised, so where the fence dips down, if my neighbour is in his garden he can see into my living room, hence I wanted something to screen that was evergreen, which would grow quickly and could easily be trimmed to size.



I have Elaeagnus x ebbingei on the other side to do the same, although on that side they can see into my kitchen as well, so I needed a hedge, but as it's paved, it had to be in containers. Not the prettiest plant, but again they are evergreen and can easily be kept in check, plus they provide scented flowers (which are just coming into bud).



Neither of the above I would have chosen for a 'pretty' garden, but they are practical and serve a purpose.

 

Clematis Armandii a "thug" you say Claralou...i hope so ,i planted one this year to cover my chicken run:D and also in honour of The Armandii:WINK1:...
Theres one thing for sure i won't expect a visit from any of you ...theres no point you'd hate my garden Oh...with the exception of Shiney as our gardens sound very similar:yess:

Berberis

 

Forsythia/Buddleia/bluebells/Cotoneaster and lots more too numerous to mention but Russian Vine has to be the one I really cannot abide despite it's acceptance by many.
It's interesting to see the range of plants covered in this thread, some I quite like in other people's gardens but not here - I do like Pelargoniums and Fuschias but cannot cope with Busy Lizzies and PPetunias.....

 

Yea petunias are just wrong! Not to keen on busy lizzie either or marigolds. Oh and how could I forget, HYACINTH - they hurt my eyes they look like feather dusters

 

But they caress the nose!

Lolimac, I have just about everything that somebody has said they hated, including Hyacinth and Lavatorial (in common pink - even worse ;-) ) and I bet everyone else has too, so dinna fret.
