    So.
Just had some friends around for tea. Was a going well, very well. Untill I asked one of them if he watched "killing Bin Laden" on channel 4 (I think).
I was then told that Bin Laden is in fact alive and well and the entire story is a government cover up. This turned into quite a heated debait in which I was called "stupid", "gulable" and "easily led"for believing the official account of what happened (quite strongly believing may I add) in this room I was clearly a minority and made to feel very foolish and silly in my own house just because I did not believe Bin Laden is on an island somewhere with Elvis and Michael Jackson living it up.
Please share with me your honest opinion on this matter!?
Bin Laden, dead or just a government cover up??
    Thanks. H.

The US government refused to make any evidence of their claims public.

There was a report on some foreign news a few years ago that he'd died in hospital of some mundane illness.

I'm not really into conspiracy theories, but it seems a bit convenient to me.

The yanks needed a moral booster. They needed to send out a strong message that the war in Afghanistan was going to plan, and that they were making good progress. They also needed to justify breaching the border with Pakistan as often as they did (I make no judgement on that), so to 'find' bin laden on Pakistani soil, right next door to one of their top military academies, was ideal for them. After that, they 1) Tell the world they are great and they got their man, and 2) Tell (Imply to) the world that the Pakistani government is aiding and abetting the taliban, and therefore there's less international fuss when they enter Pakistani territory.

Very convenient for the yanks. That doesn't mean they are lying though. Although the fact that the yanks changed their story several times about what actually happened, and then refused to make any evidence public, is obviously going to make people doubt them.

Bottom line is this: We mere peasants will never get to know for certain either way.

Where there's a story, there's always a conspiracy theory. Thing is, if he was still alive, wouldn't we have seen a video by now?

Hydro, you will never convince the "Conspiracy" gang, friends or not, that they're wrong. They live in fear and distrust of the civilization and culture they live in and if you're not with them your 'agin em. But let's face it, they've done you a favour, as you now have a new perspective on your "friends".:D:heehee:

It's funny how worked up and agitated people get in a discussion and then turn to insults and denigration of the person disagreeing with them. I've always had to live with the rule that once somebody starts "shouting" in a discussion/argument they've lost the it.

I reckon the above comment show's you're a better friend to them than they are to you, Hydro:D:heehee:

Have to admit though Armand...I was the only the only one shouting :o
But under the circumstance of the ridiculous points they raised and there implications and the fact I was outnumbered.....

Might they have been bantering you perhaps?

In my various circles of friends, we often find that one of us gets ganged up on by the rest, and its not always the same one that draws the short straw. We all know its just a bit of fun, but that doesn't stop it getting a bit heated at times. I think its a natural way of testing the strength of a friendship. If your friends feel that they can wind you up and not lose you as a friend, then I'd take that as a complement. It shows that they see you as a close friend. If they didn't think that, they'd be too polite to wind you up.

Next week, one of your friends will draw the shortest straw, and will be the one to get a ribbing.

Just wish I could have made them realise how stupid and ofensive their views are.

They won't feel so smug when you've used the time travelling helicopter to prove them wrong.
