    Good morning everyone,

We finally had an hour of heavy rain yesterday afternoon :dbgrtmb:. It's now 45F and the sun is trying to break through the mist/fog. :sunny:

It's good to hear that Amber is getting back to normal :yay:

I've got a meeting this afternoon with Barry and the Occupational Therapist at the flat he's being offered. I've got to make sure that the OT and Social Services are able to work together to provide what he will need in order to move in. The flat is quite a nice one but needs some work on the inside. The Council will do any structural work necessary (not a lot needed) but the decorating really needs doing and they only offer money towards paint. The SS will need to get that sorted - I hope.

The major factor will be the need for the erection of a shed for Barry's mobility scooter (hopefully they can bring the current one from where he lives) and making the access suitable. There is a largish, fenced and paved, area behind the flats. The Council will need to repair the fence (some of it is falling down) and make sure that the paving is levelled. The current gateway in the fence is not big enough for his scooter so will also have to be altered - and a ramp to the back door may need to be made. Then power will need to be run to the shed as his scooter needs to be permanently on charge.

I was thinking of running a book on when he would be able to move in. We could take bets and offer a prize :heehee:. Wow! My mind's starting to work overtime on this :D. How about an 0890 telephone number and advertise it around town. Maybe, if I ran it on the web as well, we could raise enough money to buy him his own house. :loll:

    Have a great day :D

Morning folks, pleased to report Amber continues to get well. Very difficult to stop her doing things she shouldn't.

Shiney, do hope they will pull all the stops out to get Barry's new flat decorated and a suitable shed provided for his mobility scooter. What a lovely idea about the 0890 number. :heehee:

    Have a good day everyone.:)

Hi everyone, I haven't been in much -We are having little man here and doing the school run once a week, plus I have been at my sons cleaning etc and doing mounds of ironing to help out.

I have now lost just over one stone :love30:

Shiney I was so upset to read about Oscar, I read through the story you posted and was glad I had the privilege of meeting him.I am sure he will be sorely missed but feel pleased he "chose" you to look after him. Please tell Mrs Shiney I am thinking of her too.

      Good morning everyone,
Waiting for a call from the vet this morning regarding Theo:(They are giving us regular updates:thumbsup:When the vet rang last night just after 10pm he said that Theo was a little stressed and he'd tried to take his bandage off so he needed to be sedated again to have it put back as his hip must be kept imobile.....So as you can imagine we had an unsettled night aswell...the poor darling must be so scared as he's never been away from us...Archi his brother is looking miserable this morning too....
      Hoping for better news today.

      Have a good day everyone....

      Morning Everyone,

Lolimac, I had to go back over the thread because I thought I had missed something. You didn't tell us that Theo had to go to the vets or leastwise I cannot find it if you did. What has happened to him? Is he going to be ok? I can imagine him being stressed if this is the first time he has been left that is how we felt about Amber. I do hope he is going to be ok.

I have given Amber a couple of sedative tablets this morning that I got from the vets to help her calm down as I have to take her back there at 2pm and I thought it might help her relax a bit. They are really to help her with motion sickness in the car. But I cannot imagine she will be too happy to go to the vets again thinking I might leave her again.

Shiney and Mrs S. hope you are both ok. thinking of you both. Kandy and Mr K, hope you too are ok. and WOO you too.:sunny:

      Have a good day everyone.:)

      Good morning everyone,

Loli, I hope Theo is feeling better this morning and that you can get in to see him and calm him down. It won't be long before he's up and about as usual. :)

Jazmine, thanks for your kind words :dbgrtmb: and very well done with your weight loss :happydance:

Well, the Council have moved fairly fast with their decisions :thumb:. Barry, myself and the OT met with the Council at the flat. Workmen are in the process of changing the heating (holes in walls, pipes everywhere, floor channeled) and putting in a new boiler so it was in a bit of a mess but they should clear it up afterwards.

The OT was very nice and very good. She agreed with me that without a place for the scooter there was no point in going further. They would also need to do all the other normal things - new, low, bath (from the Council) and grab rails etc from OT. The lounge is not in good decoration as there is lots of mold at one end in the alcove by the window. The Council will only check for damp and correct the affected area (I think it's like that because of lack of ventilation by the previous tenants and lack of wiping the condensation from around the panel below the window).

After discussion about what the Council will do the housing officer said he would take back my suggestions to the 'powers that be'. They don't pay for decoration nowadays and give a set paint allowance - they can't afford anything else.

They were very quick to get back to us and the decisions are:-

back paved area - put new fence panels where fence is falling down at one side of the area, take out the panels that house the gate and put in new panels and a wider gate, with the gate being moved to a more accessible position.

Take down and transport Barry's existing shed, lay a base, erect the shed and run power to it.

Work with the OT re bath.

They aren't moving, yet, on not doing the decorating but they have now agreed to sort out the moving costs. They don't usually do this but I thought I put forward a reasonable argument and they seem to agree.

They won't pay for the installation of his kitchen white goods and they can't tell us whether the gas pipe in the kitchen is working - which I translate as, it probably doesn't, so Barry would have to get the gas board to reconnect it.

We'll work on other things once the Council have put in writing about the shed, and the bath (which has not had a positive decision yet as OT have to put in a written report to them).

The sun is shining so I shall carry on with the pressure hosing that I started yesterday.

      Have a great day :D

Hi Shiney, That is brilliant news that they are pulling all the stops out for Barry. Hope something can be done about his redecoration. You are a good man helping him out the way you are. I assume he is not a relation but somebody you happen to know and like and want to help! That's brilliant, you shall have a putty medal for that as my mother would say! :sunny:

            Have a good day all.:)

Hi Moyra, no he isn't a relative. His father worked for me and died 28 years ago. Since he died I have looked after his widow (who was an invalid and died two years ago) and Barry who has been disabled since birth.

Sorry to hear about Oscar the hugging cat Shiney, the following may help a little.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...."

            Steve...:)
