Thanks for the tip Shiney. I did say to the doc I am not vain and wont be showing off my scar or at least I don't think I will unless a miracle happens. Lol.

Safe driving, that's a long journey Shiney.

That sounds hopeful Loli if you are going seed shopping. Spring must be around the corner.

    Stay well everyone.

        Good morning everyone,

This morning it's quite frosty but the sun is coming out.

Loli, I hope your baking went well . Although I love cooking I'm not into baking and am not all that keen on sweet things - apart from Mrs Shiney :heehee:. I cooked a few things before I went off to the bridge club last night. Three quarters of a gallon of veggie soup (that'll last for most of the week), an oxtail stew (three days worth) and I did a chicken and veg stir fry for last night. All I have to do now is skim the fat off the top of the stew and then finish it off.

This afternoon I've got to go and get the village hall set up for tonight's quiz. I've got the committee members organised with the jobs each of them have . Setting out the tables and chairs (for 12 teams of 8) in a herringbone shape so that no one has their backs to the stage where I'll be running the quiz. Tableclothes neatly on the tables, A variety of cheeses, pates and sliced meats (each slice neatly rolled) laid on platters (two for each table), cling filmed and set up in another room for collection by each team. Small bowls of pickle to be filled, bowls of salad, lots of fancy breads (made for us by a local specialist baker) cut into chunks and put into plastic bags, cutlery for each person wrapped in serviettes and lots of little things that need doing. With four of us working in the kitchen we can get this done in an hour whilst some others do all the setting up. There's also the raffle prizes to set up so they look good - there's always a big cuddly toy sitting in the middle of the prizes :wub2:

Then, later on, three of us get back there early enough before the start time to set up the sound system, projector and computer and make sure everything works OK. The club members are very good and help with clearing up, putting all the tables and chairs away and sweeping the floor. I mustn't forget black bags for rubbish and tea clothes for the washing up.

I do the quiz slightly different from most. There are two different quizzes. One is a table quiz with sheets of questions laid on the tables at the start and only need handing in before the start of the second half. These are pictorial ones, crytic, anagrams etc. The main quiz is in 10 rounds, normal sort of topics, but there are 11 questions per round but only points for ten answers. Each team can cross out the answer they don't want to be scored. So it's pick ten from eleven - except when they play their joker, when they can only have the first 10 questions (if they think they know the topic well enough to play the joker then they shouldn't need the extra chance :heehee:). I give two points per question which allows me to be generous with part scores.

Most of the questions are fairly easy but there are a few tough ones each round - and a few that just need a bit of thought like,

When did New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve last fall in the same year? and

February is the shortest month in the year, but which is the longest?

        Have a great day :D

I always thought Oxtail was a "throwaway" product that made good Soup - until yesterday.
I was in Asda and Oxtail was £5.95/kg. for a tray of bones with bits of meat attached.

You need to be choosy about which pieces of oxtail you have. I get mine in Sainsbury's and the butcher knows that I'm fussy :heehee:. It makes a superb stew. The flavour is much better than other meats :dbgrtmb: and cooked with other veg (including lots of root veg) it makes a cheap, very tasty and nourishing meal. :dancy:

          Thanks Moyra,

We try to keep busy and get things organised :dbgrtmb:

I've just checked the weather forecast and it says snow all night. I wouldn't mind too much but I'm driving to Bournemouth and back tomorrow - 300 miles. :rolleyespink:

Just been for my Birthday lunch as we felt if we left the restuarant until tonight it might be too late if it is going to snow later.

Shiney, I do hope that the snow doesn't lay and that you have a safe journey tomorrow.

Take care everyone and have a safe and warm weekend.:)

          Good evening everyone,

Many Happy Returns Moyra and glad you had a lovely meal out and hope you had a good day xxxxx

Shiney hope the quizz night goes off ok and it sounds like a good evening will be had by everyone who attends:)Hope you also have a safe journey down South tomorrow and that the road conditions are good:thumbsup:

Loli, hope your day at work has been good and that you mange to put your feet up for a rest at some point over the weekend:)

Penny we havn't had the weather quiet as badly as they have had in Europe just lately and i think we have got off quiet likely at the moment.I feel sorry for all those poor people who live on the streets and have nowhere else to go and have to put up with whatever the weather throws at them:(

We managed to get out this afternoon for a good walk over the fields and back again to the village just as the first few flkes were falling at 3.30pm twenty minutes before we were supposed to get it and now the wind has increased so the flakes are blowing with great speed past our street light.I don't envy all those that live further on down the village:D

Have a good evening everyone and please Take Care if you are out walking or driving over the coming days:)

Just got back from the quiz. Only one and a half teams didn't turn up.

The quiz went very well and the lowest team got 70% and the highest got 81% so it was pretty close. The car was covered in 4" of snow by the time we were ready to come home so I'm not sure whether we'll be going tomorrow.

I'm now going to analyse the results to see which questions were too difficult.

Have good night and keep snug :dbgrtmb:

          Good morning Everyone......

4" of snow laid through the night, the garden looks lovely. The dogs have just been out for a roll in it,they were so excited:wub2:before i go to work this morning i'm going to brush it all off the greenhouse roof as i don't want make the same silly mistake as last year...i kept whatching the snow getting thicker on the roof and thought how lovely it looked....but ofcourse each layer kept freezing solid untill there was no way of shifting it...i was hoping for a quick thaw:DOH: thus the roof fell in:wallbang:.
It was a good idea having your birthday lunch when you did Moyra...hope you had a lovely birthday.....bet Amber likes the snow too:dbgrtmb:
Sounds like all your hard work paid off Shiney and you had a good night...
I checked the forcast Shiney and it looks like icy conditions will be more of a problem than the snow in the south....IF you venture do take care .
Right wheres that brush ....i want to do it before Mr Lolimac gets up...he deserves one lyin ...thats if the dogs let him:heehee:
..:dbgrtmb:Sending WARM wishes to you all.....
