This Cacti along with a number of other house plants appear to have been included in our new house when we arrived:o

    a) What is it?
    b) How do I care for it?

I usually stay away from cacti as we don't see eye to eye:heehee:

Just a guess, its difficult until they flower or get bigger, but the spines remind me of Echinocactus grusonii.

Thanks Hadeda but I'm inclined to agree with Pete on this one as it looks closer to Echinocactus grusonii then Gymnocalicium bruchii

It's bound to be common as muck as there's a B&Q down the road and were not too far away from Ikea:dbgrtmb:

So what are we looking at on watering side? once every 4 weeks? and how much? I really dislike cacti as you never can tell =/

No Problem.... It's quite hard googling thousands of cacti that look the same :what: :thud::wallbang::gaagh:

OK, I have a positive ID on this one, it definitely is Echinocactus grusonii, and don't give it much water in the Winter, maybe just a little in the bottom saucer every 3 weeks or so!!

hmmm see the problem comes... has this been watered in the last 6 months at all? I was thinking of giving it a good water and then letting it drain and then not touching it for a month or so but if you don't water yours at all in winter...

also it's in dia need of a repot, now or in spring?

Are you going to keep this indoors? Will it be in a warm room? Cactus really like a Winter rest period, temp fairly cold and no water, but if it is a house plant then I suppose it doesn't have a rest.

I'd leave it alone for now and repot in spring if you want.

You will never kill by under watering, over watering is easy.:)
