Your not going to get much of a smart phone for £10 a month I'm afraid... what length of contract were you looking at?

for instance a cheap and cheerful smartphone with orange (android OS) will cost you £10.50 and you only get 30min call time and 500 texts and that's over a 2yr contract! the problem is that the mobile operators don't make enough money from a £10 contract

Personally I would decide what OS you want your smartphone to be, the two big players are IOS (Iphones made by Apple only) and Android (made by google and available to any phone maker, HTC, Motorola etc)

if you want an Iphone 4S then prepare to pay £25+ on a 12 month contract (Tesco's the best deal on this at the moment)

Personally I would buy a cheap smartphone on pay as you go (Like the Orange San Francisco £80-£100) and then put it on the giffgaff pay as you go network as they are by far the cheapest.

            that's basically what I have above:thumbsup:

as you can see it's a bit of a minefield... however basically for £10 a month you won't get a smartphone with many minutes or texts although you could see where haggling on the with a mobile operator over the phone gets you.

also is what you want really a smart phone? smart phones are all about internet anywhere , if you just want music, photo's and calls then your just after a more advanced phone... in which case you should go spend £30-£40 on any phone with a camera and use a pay as you go network as that's the only way your going to get value for money...

Glad to see you can still make calls from phones these day..!!
I do think by now these gadgets should be called something else other then a phone or mobile...?

I wanted an android as the other half plays about programming. I got a Samsung Galaxy mini £100 only had it a couple of weeks 0 but seems good. I use the blue tooth for the car and occasionally play with it at home on the Wifi. I have made sure I have switched off the internet as I know they will randomly connect to the internet for updates, and can cost a fortune of you are not on an inclusive tarriff. I pay £10 on the O2 simplicity, but not sure whether pic messages are included.

I have a blueberry, I only use it to send emails to work. Not sure how the phone part of it works.

I would like just a very basic mobile phone for calls, that allows me to call for the same rate always - not one that they make up every 15 days or you have to visit the website to get bonuses and things like that.

They don't seem to make those anymore!

For the use that I make of telephones (very little) I find it psycologically hard to pay £25-30 subscription every month.
I will wait until the "latest gadget fanatics" will go all for the new models so the one just before that will drop in price.
I am not in a hurry though...

PS Good luck in your search, Rod.:sunny:

                        Miraflores,

I think I have the type of phone you're after. I paid £9.95 for it and it included £5 of calls (I think it may have gone up to about £15 now). I'm on 'pay as you go' so the calls remain the same price and I've almost spent the £5 worth in the last two years :heehee:. It can't do anything but make (and receive) phonecalls and even then I have to type the number in as it's not smart :D

I don't need it for photos as I have a camera, and if I want music I sing to myself - that's probably why I haven't any mates :heehee:

For my twopenn'th - at the insistence of my resident 'responsible young persons', I've got a Blackberry on a one month rolling contract with 02. It costs me £16.50 a month for which I get 500 texts, 100 minutes of calls and 1mg of internet.

Despite Blackberry's recent problems, the 'Blackberry Messenger' is, I would say, one of it's best features - with a husband and 2 daughters who frequently work abroad (and the 'Messenger' which is free) we can send one another unlimited texts and MMS free, gratis and for nothing even when they're out of the country - no problem reaching places like the USA and Dubai with Messenger - and great if you're a 'text freak' like my daughters who use up their 'allowances' in no time.

The camera is quite good - better than my husband's (rather old) digital camera. As for the music element ..... you'd have to ask someone else I'm afraid.
