BRITAIN FACES A MINI 'ICE AGE'

Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | UK News :: Britain faces a mini 'ice age'

    quote:

BRITAIN is set to suffer a mini ice age that could last for decades and bring with it a series of bitterly cold winters.

And it could all begin within weeks as experts said last night that the mercury may soon plunge below the record -20C endured last year.
Scientists say the anticipated cold blast will be due to the return of a disruptive weather pattern called La Nina. Latest evidence shows La Nina, linked to extreme winter weather in America and with a knock-on effect on Britain, is in force and will gradually strengthen as the year ends.

    ------------------

so bye bye palms, exotics and semi-tender plants ....

nice thing about Bovril, is that it tastes better than marmite and is also excellent on toast with good mature cheddar cheese

Ah yes, do you recall the past 3 barbecue summers we were promised? Anything scientists and weathermen say as regards long term is greeted with a pinch of salt where I am concerned. I don't recall any predictions for the previous four bad summers in a row.

Did La Nina not used to be called El nino?

that was before the Macando BP oil spill ...

and it was before BP used the highly controversial chemical called 'Corexit', to make the oil from macando 'heavy' and 'mysteriously' dissapear/sink from human eyesight (and to keep the public from rioting and 'noticing')....

but it also disrupted the gulf stream .... so lets see what the longer term effects have in store for us this year

A little off score, but does anyone else feel it's an odd phrase "mini ice age". An ice age, to me, puts in mind a grand scale epic period of bitter and dangerous hails, snow and ice. I feel somewhat it rarely comes in a pigmy variation, sorta standing on ice ages I feel

Well oil spill or not, the fact of the matter is that weather has been changing over and over for the past...hm 5-10 years maybe? It's recorded that Britain should be getting colder and colder from global temperature changes "naturally"

Sorry to disagree, but the planets weather has been changing over and over for the past 5 BILLION years, One oil spill is NOT going to change the planets weather pattern.

hahaha very true. I was focusing more on the wide panic over the past 5-10 years about the way it's changing it seems every year to become a more progressively panicky topic for people

Governments and " enviromental " companies are making millions from us by scaremongering. WE did not cause global warming, no matter who tells you that. It is a natural occurance.:thumbsup:

Exactly. I always kind of figured that they said this for the sake of making people not panic and instead feel they are making some sort of action towards it. Iunno, no idea why was said but all I could figure out :what:

Chipmunk, for 5 billion years this planet has had millions of volcanoes pumping trillions of tonnes of toxins into the atmosphere. Suddenly, 10 or so years ago, it was decided we had caused global warming simply because we started burning coal 200 years ago. or because we had an oil spill last year. The people who spread this propaganda are delusional.:loll::loll::dbgrtmb:

I'm with you on this one Dai! For those of us that can.....think back to the '60's where we had proper winters and summers. The weather goes in cycles. I read a lot of medieval history and the so called 'freak' weather we're having now was no different back then if you read what was recorded at the time. :)

Sheal, an example. The winter of 1963, Wales was frozen solid, but we still went to school. We walked, or more properly, we slipped and slided. The school caretaker made sure the boilers were well stoked and we had no excuse. Now, the first sign of frost and the teachers say NO.

        Right again Dai,

In '63 I remember seeing the Thames Estuary frozen over, an amazing sight!

Yes we did still go to school. The trouble is now, there is so much interference by the EU on what we can and can't do, everybody's scared to do anything.

You must have had it less severe in Wales. We had 6 ft snow drifts in 63, our village was totally cut off for two weeks. Not a chance of being able to walk in it.
