      Good catch Woo,

If you are keeping it outside then regular oiling with Danish oil would be good. 2 coats, let them soak in for 20 mins or so before polishing up.

Spread the cloth out somewhere to dry afterwards, a crumpled up oiled rag can ignite & we don't want your nest catching fire.

Hi Ziggy many thanks for your input ,But I think that it has a finished lacquer or varnish on it,so will I have to rub it down before I put the Danish oil on it?:)

        Hey Woo,

I'd rub the varnish off anyway as it probably will be an interior one & will peel off if left outside. Oil is more relyable outside as it soaks in, exterior varnish can still crack & let the water in.

I was given a childrens school bench for firewood when I lived in Dai's Country, it had bum marks where the kids used to sit on it for all those years. Probably Victorian.
