This:goodpost: if it wasn't for this we would be dealing with and even bigger treetreetreetree fest then we are already:love30:

Still an upside is that the young tender shoots make a very pleasant alternative to rhubarb if not better:D having said that I'd be careful to make sure that you know the plants haven't been treated with herbicide before giving it a go:thumbsup:

I would argue that the weed WAS there at the time of the build, else, where did it come from? It only reproduces by vegetative regeneration.

As soon as the leaves start unfolding next year, spray with glyphosate. Repeat as needed.

I know creosote is no longer available in it's original form, but I'm wondering whether it would work. My brother used it on rampant ivy a few years back and it totally killed it off.

How long does it take to get to the state it is in ? years or months ?

I mean could they have introdused it in grow bags, or top soil brought in
OR would it have been there and built on

just to let you know Creosote is not available commercially in the UK as it has been banned by the EU. There is a Creosote substitute called Creocote the sole use of which is for the protection of timber. Neither Creosote or Creocote substitute has EU approval for the use on plants. You will find should you use it that the surrounding soil will not support plant life for many seasons and therefore I would advise against using it for that purpose.:dbgrtmb:

I agree with Aesculus on this one, Sheal. When I've used Creosote, when it was legal, in the past and now Creocote Substitute on timber and it went into the soil nothing would grow there for years. Plants that had it spilt on them might have lost a few leaves that got coated but the plant survived. I really wouldn't advise the wholesale use of it as a weedkiller.:what:

If it "crept in over the fence " it would have colonised the garden first, so they STILL would have known about it:dbgrtmb:
