Last time I spent about £10 in a cheap shop and after lots of time in the garden and two festivals they have already split down the crease made when walking...

Ideally I would like a nice pair of hunters but £50 is a lot of money to me right now.

Considering these Giasco PESCI Standard Wellingtons Green S5 Rated Sizes 6 - 11 PESCI39- because I've bought from the company before and the stuff was all good quality, but the fact they're £10 puts me off a bit....

They're made by 'Giasco'; I've never heard of them, and a search for reviews yields nothing. Anyone else ever had wellies by this make?

Or, is anyone able to recommend some affordable but really good quality wellies (or am I living in denial and quality for pittance just isn't possible?!)

Clare, just a point to note.

Your £10:00 wellies will be £21.18 inc VAT and delivery.
May be better off going into a shop? Is there any "industrial work wear supplies" near you? they often do wellies which are high quality and with steel toe cap, and cost less than most boots. (ok not less than £10)

Wow, I should've looked into the costs a bit more! Prices are almost never shown without VAT though so I just assumed...

And thanks, I had a look for industrial work wear supplies and have found this lot which look great:

        Arco - Product Search Results

But there's quite a price difference between them, a few around £25 and a few around £60, with none in between. The more expensive ones look to be the ones with the steel in them, but I'm guessing the cheaper ones will still be really good quality...?

Clare, your £10 wellies seem to have served you well really, you mentioned two festivals, so thats £5 per festival - not taking into account 'lots of times in the garden' - How much were the tickets for the festivals, how much to park your car? and how much did a cup of coffee cost at the festivals? compare value for money.

Hunter wellies production has been moved to the Far East and they've reduced the guarantee period to one year. Two outlets I use say the quality has been reduced. This is what Mrs Scrungee's Hunters looked like after a year and a few days:

        Won't ever buy them again.

Is there anyway of telling if the shop has the old or new stock?
(when did production move so we can look at a date on the box etc)

        Cheers

Have a Goggle for "Dirt Boot" Clare. Our son (he does a lot of work out of doors) just bought a pair and they look pretty good with neoprene uppers that are warm and flexible.
Hunters these day seem over priced for the quality.
Best pair of wellies I had was a steel toed pair issued to me when I worked for the Coal Board. They lasted me about 25 years. Looked good too after some joker painted white spats on them!

Last time I bought a pair of wellies from my local garden store, nothing fancy, just ordinary welly boots really, I was intrigued by the wording on the label attached to them.
It described them as 'all purpose' wellington boots.
How the heck can a pair of wellies be all purpose? So does this mean I can wear them for shopping? Playing tennis? Driving the car? Watching telly at home? Ballet dancing perhaps?
          Silly.
