Is there any chance you could sneak the Papaya in your luggage?
The variegated Bougainvillea is much bigger than mine, if could you get that in as well and some the orchids!
        Cheers.:thumb::D

While you're there check out Temple Market in the evening and also Chungking Mansions (its an eye opener, but keep your hands on your wallet) off Nathan Road.

Heh - I could quite easily have filled a few suitcases with stuff - AND there was an empty seat next to me on the fight back so I could have taken Mr Papaya in hand luggage too..

Ive been out there 3 or 4 times in the last 10 years - its interesting to see the changes, although I find it mildly depressing that all new development seems to center around yet another souless marble & chrome shopping mall full of generic shops selling overpriced bling. Such is progress I guess.

They do seem to have more of a connection with plants that we do in the west though - like these little succulents tucked into a corner of the pavement
          [IMG]

or this old monster tree with its industrial strenght supports -

          [IMG][IMG]

          - Clearly its been there a lot longer than the buildings around it - in the UK its my experience that anything thats in the way of the developers will "accidentally" get a wack with the digger regardless of any preservation orders, whilst here they have gone out of their way to try to prolong its life.. perhaps there is hope !

            Lovely photos Nick :dbgrtmb:

I wouldn't mind having one of these that I photographed in HK. I think it looks great.
Have a guess at what it is? :D

It is lovely, isn't it? :)

I won't say what it is yet so that others can have a guess. I'm sure a few of them will get it right

It's related to some house plants we have here.

              Hoya.
I would have to cheat if you want the exact species though!

Nick - did you notice the price of the Vanda orchids?

              Well done, longk :yay: :yay:

It's a Hoya multiflora 'Shooting Star'

As it's origin is in the far east there is competition between the countries as to it's proper name and Indonesia seem to be winning as a lot of countries in the world now call it Hoya javanica.

              Boring bit:-
It used to be in the family Asclepiadaceae but there is now considerable disagreement about this family and it is thought to be a part of it's subfamily. It's generally classified now as an Apocynaceae

I like this one that looks like a fatsia .... if it grows there, perhaps it will grow in the UK?
