Well I have bought my bulbs ready for spring

I intend to do the layering in 30" pots this weekend

The usual daffs, tulips, crocus and snowdrops

    Question
Can I plant anything on the top to provide some colour over winter ?
    Viola's Pansies ?

    Regards Jack McHammocklashing

I've just potted up a container Jack, just for a bit of colour by the front door.

I put the daffs in first (obviously :D), then topped up with compost, planted some winter pansies in the top; not too close to each other and then popped some crocus bulbs in the gaps.

Grand cost 99p for a pack of 25 crocus bulbs, 99p for a tray of 6 pansies, £1.25 for a pack of 15 Feb Gold Daffs and an old pot from the back of the shed; brushed and cleaned up

That is the sort of thing I was meaning, putting winter pansies violas on the top of the bare pot, for colour over winter then when crocus and snowdrops appear through dead head the pansies TA

I like that idea too. I bought rather too many orange tulips, so I think I'll plant the surplus in pots with orange pansies - should look good (I hope).
