UK Knife Law?

I've just bought my self one of these [ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Knife-Forester/dp/B000MLQOX4/[/url] as a present to myself with some left over money from an Amazon voucher mainly with the idea of using it when I'm out and about looking at fungi and plant's However It's just suddenly occurred to me that the blade might be over the legal size does anyone have any information on this? I've Google'd the knife model and it's quoted as having a 3.3" lock blade (linear lock)

Your link seems to have "timed out" (it only works for a set time)

Your blade is technically illegal by .3 of an inch.

HOWEVER, you must have "reasonable cause" to carry such a knife, AND you must be able to prove such cause.
Also for argument sake if when going home the wife calls and asks you to get a pint of milk, and you go into a supermarket and the knife is on your person and it gets seen, you have no reason to be carrying it.

So in other words, when you have been in the woods, when you get back to your car, take it off your person, and put it in the boot.

 

Thanks Watergarden, I wasn't planning on having on me all the time (I have a small keyring one for that) and as long as I'm not a muppet and go waving it around the supermarket I should be fine I don't actually have car unfortunately (or a license now I think about it or a wife:happydance so it looks like it's at the bottom of the rucksack for it:WINK1:

 

I also often wanted to take some kind of knife to pick up roots etc in the woods but did not know exactly the rules.

 

Fortunately I have never been in a knife fight . I am sure though that the police would realise that a Swiss army knife would not be the weapon of choice for your typical yobbo.

knife laws in the UK are very strict

once bought an antique japanese samuri sword from carboot .... paid £80, listed it on ebay, and got a 'slap' from ebay and listing was removed (nearly got a ban)

ended up selling it at an auction house for over £400 (after commisions)

the same as drug paranophalia (sp) .... listed a pipe that was made of ivory and handcarved in the form of an old man with a beard .... item was removed and got a double 'slap' .... someone thought it was an opium pipe and reported it, and I also got a 'slap' for selling an item that is made of ivory

so, very soon, we may find sites like Amazon putting restrictions on knives being sold within the UK
