Whats looking good in November 2011

Know its getting a bit late in the year but there are still a few things going strong, my Mandevilla thats just been moved to its winter home in the sunroom looks pretty good, bought this a couple of years ago for £2.50 on a quick sale stand!!!!

Virginia creeper 'Veitchii' on the pergola at the back of our house looking great at the moment. There's a Honeysuckle in there too which is still flowering.
These pictures were taken last weekend, it has shed quite a few leaves this week, but still looking pretty good.

 

Simbad - your Mandevilla is lovely. I bought a couple very cheaply last year, and mistakenly thought that they would survive the winter in a frost free greenhouse. I lost them, and have since learned that they need to be much warmer, so your sunroom sound like the right place.

 

Thanks Peter :Dyes I did have another variety 'Suaveolens' which is a bit hardier and had survived previous years in my unheated greenhouse but last winter finished it off too, this one spends summer outdoors and winter in the sunroom, as soon as its brought in it suffers badly from whitefly though so have to spray it.

A little hand held vacuum does the trick of getting the white fly in the house .

I have white fly in the garden realy bad this year the honeysuckles are covered in them still !!!! November !!!

if I knock the bush clouds of them in the air.

PS i should take a photo as "Alaska" hollie is looking good covered in berries , I remember when I bought it only the one little berry on the branch and the guy in the garden centre laughed ,, I could see potential .... and its starting to pay off I will get nexts doors cats to stand guard wont be long before the fieldfares etc take all !!!

I'll try that Spruce not my new hoover though or the whole lot'll go up the spout:D, nothing else here seems to have suffered this year just this one plant they seem to like.
The holly do take a while don't they we have a couple planted 11 years ago before we built the house, tiny little sticks then,part of the planning was that the wood had to be extended to hide the view of our house from a nearby hotel!!! so planted before we even bought the land, all the trees planted at the same time have grown huge now holly are having to compeat a bit but for the first time they have berries :happydance:as you say once the birds find them they won't last long so get your camera out Spruce:D, mind you today its the hawthorn they're enjoying the hedges are full of all sorts of birds, another part of the planning, had to be all indigenous hedges, which is nice as they attract so much wildlife.

 

Another unloved orphan rescued from the compost heap at the garden center - Chrysanthemum Showmaker Gala - its done really well & has been in flower all summer.. its still going, all be it a bit of a funny shape now..

 

Passiflora 'Crimson Tears' not a hardy variety so grown in a large pot in the sunroom, first time flowering.

 

Alonsoa 'Meridionalis' shame these have only just really got going as soon as we have a frost they'll be gone.

 

Your Crimson Tears is a beautiful plant, Simbad, i love it.

Iochroma cyanea from seed this year. Not a patch on Victoria's, but the first flowers are always special


Salvia leucantha was a late starter this year.

 

Hi Peter, yes I grow from seed each year, not hardy, but very easy from seed,seed originally swapped on a swapshop around 8 years ago, hope it gets a chance to set some this year as its only just started flowering, much later than usual.
Love that salvia is that a hardy variety?
