Where does every get their bareroot trees from? I had a quick google and they seem to be around the same price as what I would pay for a pot grown one :(

Also could I buy an acer as a bare root plant?

We have just planted the first thing into our garden and that is 37 bare root beech bushes so fingers crossed all will be well. We payed less for them then I thought we would £28 free p&p for 50 plants

Didnt realise other plants came bare root too I'll have to keep my eye out for them when the gardens sorted

Same here, Hydro, wearing a path in the lawn and one in the lounge carpet pacing up and down. The Postman is now afraid to come near the house in case I rush out and ask where my roses are.:D:heehee:

Are we in bare root roses season yet? Roses don't go to bed until about late December do they? In which case I'd expect their bare root window to be much shorter than for most trees and shrubs, but I could be wrong.

Well, most of the Rose suppliers state on their sites that they supply bare root plants from November. Clueless. I hope you're wrong:cry3: Mind you if you're right and we take in the way the things you buy affect the Winter...............I might get them on Monday:D:heehee::heehee::loll::loll:

A local Morrisons supermarket were selling off last season's unsold bare rooted crab apple trees reduced to half price several weeks ago (mainly dead, but a few with a bit of long, spindly growth) which must mean they're expecting 'fresh' stock in soon.

I might brave the crowds (our local Morrisons gets very, very busy, which means I hardly ever use it) and go and have a look.

I've been thinking for a few days now about plucking up the courage and enduring the mayhem of Morrisons, because I want a load of those plastic buckets they sometimes sell. They sometimes do packs of 8 buckets for 99p. I think its the buckets the cut flowers come in, and they sell them off cheap. Drill a few drain holes in them and they make excellent large pots for raising young trees in.

I got back from Manchester today to find my neighbour had accepted a delivery for me................my first of two orders from Style Roses.:yess::yess::yess: So I've now got the two climbing roses that I want to go either side of the Arbor, Compassion and Alchemist.
So they're now both soaking their roots in a bucket of water until tomorrow morning. I guess I'll be late for work tomorrow as I'll be taking time out to plant the roses.!!!:D:heehee:

Now I'll be waiting for the second order of three climbing roses for the pond area.:D:coffee:

Whoopee, the bare rooted cherry plums I want to complete the (edible) wind breaks around my poly tunnel area are now in, and the root stocks for apple grafting next year are now also in stock.

A trip to purchase these on Sat. will combine nicely with a going to one of the last boot sales in the area. I'll only get 5% discount (10% on Wed.) but save on diesel and hopefully something else.

Hi Hydro, sorry but I missed this post but when I came across it I was going to say that I hadn't received the second order of roses. But today, while I was in Conway, one of my daughters took delivery of them. So now Roses Bright Future, White Cloud and Mdme Alfred Carriere are sitting in a bucket of water in the Kitchen until tomorrow. There is frost forecast for tomorrow morning so I'll wait until it clears and then get them planted by the Pond.:yess::yess::D

I got my four at 05:30 Monday morning :-(

Got them in the ground Yesterday
Two standards "Alan Titchmarsh" and "Munstead Wood"
              Two climbers "Wenlock" and "Compassion"

Slight problem with the standards, discovered whilst digging extra hard to break up the stone in the earth, that happened to be the Gas Mains :-)
