I see on a wildlife forum i go on that these poor birds are being harrassed already

Every single year this species of bird are almost 'hunted down' by the fanatical bird watchers who have to have that picture or video showing them in all their beautiful glory.

If and when i see them i don't tell a soul because i think it's wrong for groups, nay masses, of these 'paparrazzi' to invade their space

    Rant over.

      Hi Lou

Happened with me a couple of years ago , with the waxwings had a small flock about 20 and feeding from my rosa rugosa I have planted with the hawthorn at the bottom of my garden , following day over the other side of the river about 10 people running round and scared them all off .
At one point they were scrabling in the bushes and another actualy got into the river to get a good view

We did have small white egrets two pairs on the river constantly pestered over the past 18 months , and I think they have had enough as well , my side of the river is private the other side they can just about get away with it !!!! I did think of calling the police but have a feeling me moaning about somone one with binoculars looking at the houses , now that makes me think peeping Tom , I hope no one called Tom on here and most probably thats not PC either :WINK1:

I know they are not all like that but it only takes one or two to spoil it for everyone

My rant over as well :heehee:

i'm sorry you feel like that Louise but last year we were two of about five people who went off to our local Pets at Home and Sainsburys to see and photograph these little beauties and I can tell you from personal experience that these little birds were not interested one iota in the fact that we were there and taking photos of them. They were more interested in feeding on the Rowan berries of the trees in the car parks:D

It was also educational seeing the birds for the many shoppers especially those with children who were enthralled with the site and the beautiful call of these rare birds.:D

We have been ornithologists for a long time {me since childhood}and we always make sure whatever rare or common bird we go to see, treat the bird and the owners of the land with respect so that everyone can enjoy them:)

What does annoy us though is the parents that bring their kids along to the bird reserves and then while we are in the hides, the kids get bored and start screeching and shouting all over the place because they can't sit quietly for a few minutes while the rest of us enjoy the wildlife. Now that does annoy me big time:mad:

Perhaps you can put the link up for the wildlife forum so we can all see what exactly is being said and done to disturbe these birds:)
