I've just spent a fortune on veggie seed and seed potatoes for next season, by a fortune I mean less than £70 but not by much! :(

I hope the gardening gods smile upon me next season else Carol will go ape!

Invested in enough to cover the home garden plot and the allotment.

    Fingers crossed eh?

    You'll be OK.
London always seem to get the best weather - according to the BBC weather forecast anyway.
North of Watford seems to mean Scotland. (they call it "The North")

£70 is not bad if it will do the whole season Vince, you could spend that in a single shopping session at the supermarket, just for one week.:OUCH:

Afraid so Harry.:( Solar output is at its lowest since we began recording it.

Also solar radio activity, which we've been monitoring since the 1950s afaik, is also at its lowest. Sunspots have been almost absent this year, although i'm happy to report that there are some currently.

We won't know if the sun is going into a hibernation period for 2 years more of monitoring, this hopefully is just a glitch.

When I was learning Geology there were all sorts of theorys as to the cause of the ice ages, involving new mountain chains blocking air currents & so forth. I always thought these were wrong. Ice ages start over a matter of a few years, not millenia.

Simple reason for ice sheets to start rolling - Turn the heat down:OUCH:

Just found this page that partly backs up what i've been trying to tell people for years,

Planetary Temperature and Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

That CO2 has only been this low in the Carboniferous period when loads of it was taken out by coal formation.

That we are more than likely still in the last ice age.

That the Pemian ice age had far more Co2 in the atmosphere. (I believe the Permian one was where the polar ice spread out from both poles and all but met in the middle.)

That Co2 in the atmosphere has little or no correlation to ice ages and that the sun cooling down is a far likelier cause.

Sorry, i've ruined Sunday Evening now:DOH:

But as encouragement for all, we have had a very poor year up here in Cockermouth, Cumbria.

Light and sun levels have been at their worst with virtually all of spring/summer being dull and overcast.

Good summer temps for us this year where in the high teens, yet I still managed decent crops from unfertilised soil, only things that really failed for me where Melons and Aubergines.

Its a new plot so will require some work to bring the soil upto good via rotation and manuring etc, but good crops can still be had even with poor climactic conditions.

              Steve...:)
