[IMG] Love the Digitalis too.! Look forward to seeing you around the forums.. :D

Nick we used to live in Farringdon in the early sixties.. We were in the Redlion Pub, opposite the Corn Exchange & next to what was then anyway, the Post Office.. Spent happy years there.. Has it changed much.? :D

    Hi Marley!

I have the seeds for the Digitalis if you're interested..........

My dad (with help from me) did the plumbing in Sudbury House up by the Folly when it was done up 25 years or more ago. It's a hotel now as I recall...........

    Small world !

Ive only lived in the area for the last 20 years but I dont think its changed that much - its been in a slow decline since they finished the A420 bypass in 1979 - the red lion is still there, it had a full refit 5 or 6 years ago now & reopened as an upmarket gastropub.. which lasted about 6 months before it went under; its a normal booze & food pub now & is doing ok-ish.

In the time Ive lived there we have lost the Bakers Arms (now a house), the Bull (house), the Salutation Bar (Flats), the Eagle (house), the Pink Elephant (House), The community center (Closed & partly demolished) & the Duke of wellington (Closed). The Post Office is now a Thai restaurant (not bad), Davis DIY closed this year & is now a piano showroom & Mr Carter sold the supermarket to Budgens a while ago & its slowly falling apart. JDS Joinery went bust & the site has been purchased by Tescos who plan to build a medium sized supermarket there one day (its been two years so far with nothing but wasted time & £££ in planning meetings).

Having said that its not a bad place to live - it suffers from the same problems as a lot of smallish towns - indifference & poor planing from the council, aging infrastructure with little investment, too many cars & not enough space to park them & an increasingly disinterested population. Kinda sums up most of the UK IMHO.

But you can still get a decent pint of beer, its small enough that you normally meet someone you know & its comfortable after a week working in London.

    Nick.

Thanks for the update Nick.. As you say sounds like it is in the same situation as many small towns.. Oh dear poor old Red Lion, it was a lovely place when we were there.. Huge & rambling out the back with a massive garden & yard that went all the way around the back of the PO etc to the back or side of a church or chapel.. It had out buildings and a skittle alley undercover along one wall at the back & a wash house still with the old pumps in, stables the lot.. Always a busy pub in those days with very active Shuv Ha'penny & darts teams.. Had friends who ran the Bull too, so sad, but there we are.. I suppose the station has gone as well now then.?
There was also Ferndale School as well run by Nancy Reeves at that time.. I am glad it is styill a nice town & you can still get a good pint there... :D

Oh my so Sudbury is an hotel now, We used to walk to the folly most days with the dogs''

      That would be great :dbgrtmb:

I'm not sure we have any unusual plant seeds to offer in return  as Mrs Shiney runs that side of things. If you're into spring flowers then we may still have a variety of different coloured cowslip seeds. Our cowslips vary from the normal yellow, through shades of orange and red.

I'll have a chat with Mrs S to see what we have.

Shiney - nothing is asked for in return!

PM an address before Monday and I'll pop them in the post.
      Interested in an unusual Lathyrus?

Hello longk, welcome to the forum. My son used to live in Oxford close to the Botanic Garden so I would pop in there if I had chance.

I'm often accused of living there JWK - the season ticket is one of the best £12 you can spend.
