I've just got hold of some English Bluebell seeds but need some advice on growing them. There are instructions but they seem quite complex involving moving here and there depending on the the current conditions and temperature until finally planting out. I just wondered if someone could just simplify what needs to be done, how and when etc

    Many thanks :)

    Hi
How fresh are the seeds this is the secret and how they have been stored as normaly you would plant straight away I think late June they are normaly ready to collect .

Realy easy you could plant in situ , rake the soil over and just sprinkle and leave alone , they will come up in the spring .

Or use a seed tray, fill with compost sprinkle seed cover with grit, leave for a year then trasnsplant into modules you need to keep in the shade and keep moist over the summer. until ready to plant out in the spring whn you see new growth.

    Thanks for the reply.

Well I got them from Ebay so age unknown :s Could I plant them now in one of those small plastic, covered seed germinator thingies? If so can I leave it outside?

yes that will be fine to leave outside make sure the drainage is good so the seeds dont rot , you will know in the spring if the seeds were ok look like baby onions plants
dont forget to cover with grit

Herb, I don't wish to put a 'downer' on this for you, I've got bluebells coming up in my garden everywhere including the lawns. I didn't introduce them and they self seed and grow easily. Believe me they are a nightmare if like me you want to get rid of them, they are not easy to kill with glyphosate either, so digging them out before they seed is my only option.

aids drainage, lets the light in , stops some weeds and stops mosses etc growing, deters the slugs (occasionaly) makes it easier to water and not wash the soil out , helps germination !!!

Anyone else like to chip in :)
