shop at stores such as Tesco and use you Tesco club card for points

they know how much alcohol you consume a month, what alcohol you enjoy, what baked beans you enjoy, what shampoo you use and what toilet paper you buy

so ... down the line, you loose your job ... get jobseekers allowance of £80 a week ... and take a few 'cash in hand jobs'

you continue to use your tesco card (as you get rewards) ... all your purchases are recorded .... you spend £180 per week on booze, rump steaks, salmon, food and luxuries ... yet you only earn £80 a week on benefits?

    just saying ...

They already tried that a few years ago. I can't remember if it was the bird flue incident, or the pig flu one, but a web site was set up where you could log on and answer about 10 simple multiple choice questions. Then no matter how you answered, it came up with a big red box on the screen, with a very prominent message telling you to phone an ambulance immediately.

I'm not even joking, this site did happen, and I tried it several times with the same result every time.

Using a store allegiance card, for a return of 0.00001p per pound spent
They have a full record of what your habits and spend are
Other agencies (cough) have access to these records
You are on benefits of £80pw yet your store allegiance card shows you have £180pw disposable income
    (read COMPLIANCE OFFICERS)

Employers and Compliance officers already scan Facebook of people of interest
ie:- you go for a job and you appear and state squeaky clean
Facebook shows you were blown outa yer mind Sat nite LOL

On benefits facebook shows Gals bought some fab Jimmy Choos, got tickets for boys aloud concert
Store card shows you spend £100pw more than your benefit (Undeclared income ?)
Mobile phone, use and downloads, monthly cost etc

This is not paranoid it is true, not solely used but helps build the picture before court proceedings

    Yes it is
Dim was pointing out that whilst we would be upset at personal information may be gained by hacking Medical records
It is already willingly given away by people using store allegiance cards etc

On this forum alone, anyone will know when I bought a greenhouse how much I paid, when I erected it (I may have been off work on a sickie) what my medical state is, how much I spend on average, not only on gardening but on other things, (bought daughter no2 a garage) member of a Gym £400py , paid £600 for an electronic piano for grandaughter no1, three cruises a year
Where does he get this money from ? he is on £80pw benefit
Chances of Medical Records hacked, who is interested, other than for PIA advertisers, when it is clearly available on common forums

This forum alone again, Off sick this week , kidney stones, had a stroke in 2005

So without the effort of hacking Gov medical records people can glean what they want from simple forums if they so wish

only gave that as an example .... what I was trying to say is that people's private info is / can be traced via computer as everything is now interlinked .... Big Brother is getting more sophisticated and knows everything there is to know about you, including which internet sites you visit, how many beers you drink a week, and what you eat and wear and your health records

My brother was saying that everything is now linked via computer in south africa ... there, everyone has a unique identity number

don't pay your electricity bill .... when you try renew your car licence, they refuse as you have to pay your electricity bill first ... etc

So, DIM, you say everyone has a unique identity number. We in America have our Social Security number, have had for years. So are those "unique numbers" you mentioned similiar? I guess I never thought about, until now, do you all have a similiar number assigned to you in the UK?

South African Identity Numbers are similar to the Social Security number in the US .... everyone has a unique number ...and everything is now logged on sophisticated computers

    UK don't have these
